Liverpool Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace chiefs want Oliver Glasner to remain at Selhurst Park until the end of the season after a turbulent weekend.

The Eagles boss revealed last week that he is quitting the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

While chairman Steve Parish was aware of his intentions to leave, he did not know that Glasner would go public with the announcement at that time.

His immediate future was then thrown into further doubt in the aftermath of the defeat against Sunderland.

Crystal Palace make Oliver Glasner decision

Following a run of 10 matches without a victory in all competitions, Glasner sensationally took aim at the board by claiming they have been “abandoned.”

He said: “I feel we are being abandoned completely.

“I can’t blame any player. They did everything they could and this has been going on for weeks and months now. We have 12, 13 players from the squad available and we feel no support.

“The worst thing is selling our captain one day before playing a Premier League game.

“We are preparing, it’s the first [full] week we are training since September, and then we are selling our captain one day before a game. So I have no understanding of this.”

His odds immediately dropped in the Premier League sack race, which has been further fueled by their dismal run of results.

According to The Standard, Glasner and sporting director Matt Hobbs held a clear-the-air meeting on Sunday where they discussed his latest comments.

They came to a resolution that the Austrian will remain in charge until the end of the campaign before looking for his next role.

Glasner isn’t likely to be short of options and is the current favourite to become the next Tottenham manager, with Thomas Frank on the brink of the sack.

Meanwhile, former England boss Gareth Southgate is one of the names on the shortlist to be the next Crystal Palace manager.

Jean-Philippe Mateta may leave for Juventus

Glasner and Crystal Palace could suffer yet another transfer blow this month with their main striker, Jean-Philippe Mateta, hoping to join Juventus.

The manager is already dealing with the fact that captain Marc Guehi is joining Manchester City.

Juventus have reportedly had an opening offer turned down by Palace, but Mateta is thought to be eager to make the move and have a fresh start.

The bid is believed to be in the region of €33million, and Palace may look to cash in this month, knowing his value will drop at the end of the season.

That is because the player’s contract expires in 2027, meaning he will be in the final year of his deal at the beginning of the next campaign.

The uncertainty surrounding Glasner and the club’s future has also played a part in Mateta’s decision to seek a new challenge.
