British boxing icon and heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora has admitted to ducking 12-0 prospect Moses Itauma.
The former world title challenger revealed in a recent interview that he turned down a ‘couple of million’ to fight the 20-year-old in Saudi Arabia.
Derek Chisora DUCKS Moses Itauma Despite £2M+ Offer
Former world heavyweight title challenger and British boxing icon Derek Chisora has revealed he turned down a purse of £2million+ to face highly-rated prospect Moses Itauma.
‘Del Boy’ boasts a record of 36-13 as a professional fighter, which includes a trilogy with Tyson Fury, who is a two-time world champion with 34-2-1 record, two fights with Joseph Parker, two against Dillian Whyte and many more.
The 41-year-old also shared the ring with the likes of Oleksandr Usyk, Vitali Klitschko, David Haye and many more big names throughout his near 20 year career.
He has faced almost every heavyweight of the past two decades, but simply won’t fight Moses Itauma. Itauma, who is only 20-years-old, is one of the most highly-touted prospects in world boxing.
He has had 12 fights, winning them all including 10 via knockout as well. Despite fighting a ‘who’s who’ of names, Chisora has revealed that he ducked Itauma and turned down a purse of £2m+ to fight the up-and-coming heavyweight star.
Speaking to talkSPORT, ‘Del Boy’ explained his reasoning for not taking the fight and looking for options elsewhere instead. He also revealed that he had no intention of fighting Itauma at any stage, even for multiple millions:
“I had a phone call a couple of weeks ago. They offered me to fight Moses Itauma in Saudi. I said how much? They said a couple of million and I said ‘nah, I’m out,” said Chisora.
The 49 fight veteran does want to fight on and get to the magic number of 50 fights, but simply has no intention of ever fighting Moses Itauma. Can you blame him?
Even if Chisora did fight Itauma, he’s be a huge underdog with the best boxing betting sites and would be tipped to get stopped early by the 12-0 prospect.
Who Will Derek Chisora’s Next Fight Be Against?
Derek Chisora’s last fight against Otto Wallin was called ‘The Last Dance’, with the British heavyweight icon expected to hang up his gloves for good in the aftermath.
However, that now doesn’t seem to be the case at all. Instead, ‘Del Boy’ has plans to fight on and possibly even challenge the great Oleksandr Usyk, whose net worth has hit £45m, again in a rematch for the world heavyweight titles.
The 36-13 fighter has had 49 bouts as a professional as of today. He is just one shy of a monumental 50 fights in the pro ring, so it seems obvious that the 41-year-old will have at least one more fight before he hangs up his gloves for good.
Several names have been thrown about as potential opponents for Derek Chisora’s next fight. The likes of Moses Itauma, who Chisora obviously isn’t keen to face, Dave Allen and even Anthony Joshua are just some of the names that have been mentioned for ‘Del Boy’.
It remains to be seen what his next move will be, but it seems that there is still life in Chisora yet. A trilogy contest with Dillian Whyte, who happens to be Moses Itauma’s next fight on August 16 in Riyadh, is another potential option for Chisora in late 2025 or next year.
Whatever happens next for Chisora doesn’t matter a great deal. His legacy is assured as a true British boxing icon and a man that fought everyone across his near 20 year professional career.
