EFL League One AI prediction

We asked an AI Supercomputer to give its EFL prediction for this weekend’s League One and League Two fixtures.

With the international break upon us, domestic football has stopped for the Premier League and Championship sides.

The same is not true for the rest of the EFL, though.

Action continues in the lower leagues and the League One and League Two seasons keep rolling.

Ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, we asked an AI Supercomputer to predict what it thinks will happen in each game across both leagues, with some interesting results.

As it stands, Luton Town are 10/3 favourites with football betting sites to win League One, while MK Dons lead the League Two betting at 7/2.

EFL League One AI Prediction

Bolton vs AFC Wimbledon

Prediction: Bolton 2–0 Wimbledon

Bolton approach this on the back of an unbeaten five-game run, while Wimbledon lost last time out have historically struggled at Bolton.

Doncaster Rovers vs Bradford City

Prediction: Doncaster 1–1 Bradford

With Doncaster slightly favoured, Bradford are likely to offer stiff competition, a tight draw seems probable.

Huddersfield Town vs Peterborough United

Prediction: Huddersfield 2–0 Peterborough

Huddersfield are in fine form, having won four of their last six, while Peterborough languish at the bottom with just one point.

Lincoln City vs Wigan Athletic

Prediction: Lincoln 1–2 Wigan

Wigan’s defensive solidity suggests Lincoln might struggle to break through, while the visitors should edge an away win.

Plymouth Argyle vs Stockport County

Prediction: Plymouth 0–2 Stockport

Stockport have been solid with only one league defeat in six, and face a Plymouth side that have lost five of six

Port Vale vs Leyton Orient

Prediction: Port Vale 1–1 Leyton Orient

The AI expects a balanced contest given both teams’ mid-table dynamics.

Rotherham United vs Exeter City

Prediction: Rotherham 2–1 Exeter

Rotherham’s home advantage and Exeter’s mid-table status suggest a narrow home win.

Wycombe Wanderers vs Mansfield Town

Prediction: Wycombe 2–0 Mansfield

Wycombe are consistently top 10 finishers and face a Mansfield side winless in their last two in all competitions.

EFL League Two AI Prediction

As well as predicting this weekend’s League One games, we also asked the AI for its opinion on the League Two fixtures.

Below are the predicted scores according to the software, along with why it thinks each result will happen.

Newport County vs Bristol Rovers

Prediction: Newport 1–0 Bristol Rovers

With Newport’s imperative to knock over a struggling Rovers side, a tight home win seems on the cards.

Barnet vs Shrewsbury Town

Prediction: Barnet 2–0 Shrewsbury

Barnet have found form recently, whereas Shrewsbury remain second-bottom with just two points.

Barrow vs Swindon Town

Prediction: Barrow 1–1 Swindon

Given both sides’ mid-table stability and lack of stakes, a stalemate appears likely.

Cambridge United vs Oldham Athletic

Prediction: Cambridge 2–0 Oldham

Cambridge’s good run will likely continue against winless Oldham.

Cheltenham Town vs Accrington Stanley

Prediction: Cheltenham 1–1 Accrington

Both sides are in transitional form, so expect a low-scoring draw.

Prediction: Colchester 1–1 Crewe

Colchester need points to stay safe, while Crewe have had mixed displays, so the AI expects a tight draw.

Harrogate Town vs Crawley Town

Prediction: Harrogate 1–0 Crawley
