England Vs France Player Ratings After Shock Result At Twickenham

Here are our England Vs France player ratings as England scored late to beat France 26-25 at Twickenham on Saturday.
England Vs France Player Ratings
England:
15 – Marcus Smith: 7
An inspired move to switch him to fullback, one which proved many doubters wrong. Popped up constantly in attack and was brave in defence. Poor kicking for goal but mature enough to let Fin Smith take over when it was clear he was having an off day.
14 – Tommy Freeman: 8
Great in the air and scored a vital try. Is quickly establishing himself as a proved, test-quality winger. Could be a Lions tour bolter.
13 – Ollie Lawrence: 7
Another huge performance to back up last week’s big shift. Manhandled Ramos to score England’s first try and was a handful all game, lovely pull-back pass to Fin Smith to help create the winning try.
12 – Henry Slade: 7
Solid and reliable, though missed a few tackles as the French backs cut loose.
11 – Ollie Sleightholme: 6
Lucky that some of his poor defensive reads weren’t punished as France left several scores out there. Not his best performance.
10 – Fin Smith: 8
Stepped up and took his opportunity brilliantly. Looked shakey in the opening quarter, and was by his own admission ‘a rabbit in headlights’, but grew into the game.
Was pivotal in creating some of England’s tries and threw himself about defensively. An assured display from the young man.
9 – Alex Mitchell: 7
Much better than against Ireland. Kicking was on point and marshalled the troops effectively, linking well with club teammate Smith at ten.
1 – Ellis Genge: 7
Exactly what you’d expect from the Bristol man. Pressurised the French scrum while carrying hard and asserting himself physically.
2 – Luke Cowan-Dickie: 7
Didn’t put a foot wrong, accurate at set-piece and a nuisance in the contact.
3 – Will Stuart: 7
Powerful in the scrum against that massive French pack. More involved around the field than he was last week.
4 – Maro Itoje: 8
A great performance for his first win as captain. Put his body on the line and stood out all the time. Very impressive from the skipper.
5 – George Martin: 7
Another big shift in the engine room. There’s not much to it in terms of complexity, but that’s far from an insult.
Boots on, chest out, melt everything that comes near him. Another day in the office for Martin.
6 – Tom Curry: 8
Excellent once again and proving why he’s probably England’s most likely Lions test starter. Ferocious on both sides of the ball.
7 – Ben Earl: 7
Work-rate and intensity in everything he did. Made a mess of the French breakdown and worked tirelessly around the field.
8 – Tom Willis: 7
Hard-nosed and aggressive in everything he did. Took his opportunity at eight and performed very well indeed.
Replacements: 9
The ‘Pom Squad’ as they’ve been labelled, did superbly when they came on. Jamie George’s leadership in the final minutes was vital, while Ben Curry put in a great shift.
Elliot Daly scored the winning try, and young Fin Baxter also grabbed his first senior international score.
