Leicester City have made no contact with legendary boss Nigel Pearson over the vacant position at the club.
The Foxes are looking for a new, experienced manager following the sacking of Marti Cifuentes on Sunday.
Club chiefs decided to end Cifuentes’ reign on the back of a home defeat to struggling Oxford which left them 14th in the Championship.
The former QPR manager had been in his position for less than seven months, but the pre-season play-off hopefuls have slipped down the table following a run of one win in five league games.
Leicester Won’t Appoint Nigel Pearson
While Pearson is one of the names among the betting in the next Leicester manager market, the club have made no contact with their former boss.
Pearson is regarded as a hero among supporters following his success over two managerial spells.
His promotions from League One and the Championship will be etched in history, but he is also remembered for laying the foundations for their heroic 5,000-1 Premier League title win alongside the late Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh.
Ironically, this season marks 10 years since that title victory, and their current squad now ranks among the worst in the last 30 years.
Leicester’s current points tally of 38 points is just four more than at this stage in the 2007/08 campaign, which ended in relegation to League One.
Pearson was appointed that summer and made wholesale changes to the squad by trimming the wage bill, changing the mindset and getting the supporters back on board.
Leicester won the title on 96 points, and he almost inspired back-to-back promotions by reaching the play-offs in the following season.
Pearson’s second spell in charge upon his appointment in 2011 was in a similar vein, reducing a massively inflated wage bill following a summer of big spending under Sven Goran Eriksson.
The club eventually achieved promotion in the 2013/14 season with 102 points.
The last time Pearson was at Leicester was for Jamie Vardy’s farewell appearances in May of last year.
Who Will Leicester Appoint Next?
Leicester need stability as they go in search of their fourth manager in 20 months.
Andy King, who worked as a coach under Pearson at Bristol City, is currently in interim charge, but the club are identifying a more experienced name.
Gary Rowett is one of the managers being mentioned and is currently out of work following his sacking at Oxford last month.
He would arrive with plenty of Championship experience and may be seen as a temporary appointment until the end of the season.
Tony Mowbray is another name being mooted and is currently without work since his sacking as West Brom boss last May.
Russell Martin and Lee Carsley are two names who sit among the favourites in the betting.
