2000 Guineas Runners - Headed by Field Of Gold

Field Of Gold continued his rise up the horse racing ranks as the good-looking grey, who is trained by John and Thady Gosden in Newmarket, romped away with the Group One St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot – but what is next for this classy 3 year-old?

It was billed as the race between this season’s 2000 Guineas winners – with the English, Irish and French winners all locking horns.

However, despite Ruling Court, who took the English version, and Henri Matisse, the French winner – it was the Irish Guineas hero Field Of Gold that was clearly the best.

This good looking grey won the Irish 2000 Guineas by 3 3/4 lengths but trumped that with a facile win in the much more competitive St James’s Palace Stakes.

And in the process picked up a cool £368,615 in winnings for his Juddmonte owners – taking his career earnings to £834,038.

Field Of Gold eventually won this day one Royal Ascot feature by 3 1/2 lengths (watch below).

It was also a fourth win for Gosden in the St James’s Stakes – one of which was with Kingman, who is Field Of Gold’s sire (dad).

Kingman won the race in 2014, which was three years after another Juddmonte-owned superstar Frankel took the race.

After the race Field Of Gold’s jockey Colin Keane said about his Royal Ascot winner, “He’s best I’ve sat on”

Where Will Field Of Gold Run Next? 🩷💚

Field Of Gold has several options going forward.

This is because he looks certain to stay further than a mile, should connections wish to step him up in trip.

Therefore, this could bring the Coral-Eclipse into play at Sandown on Saturday 5th July – run over 1m2f.

He’s also entered in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday 30th July – this race is over a mile.

Then later in the season holds an entry for Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September over 1m2f.

However, being Juddmonte owned, many are also suggesting the Juddmonte International Stakes at York is another race connections would aim Field Of Gold this season.

This race is on on Wednesday 20th August this year and run over 1m2f.
