The 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season promises a major shake-up, bringing new rules, reshuffled wildcards, and position changes.Â
Last season, over 11.5 million managers took part in the FPL season, making the 2024/25 season the most successful in history. As per current projections, the participation figures are likely to be beaten in 2025/26.
Every season, FPL strives to deliver the most authentic experience to the managers. This means keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of the game, tracking the players’ preferred positions. In the 2025/26 FPL season, 11 players will have new classifications, based on the positions they frequented the most last season. SportsCasting takes a look at all of them, in detail, below.
FPL 2025/26 Position Changes: Cunha, Bowen And Nine Others Reclassified
Matheus Cunha (Manchester United) – Midfielder from Forward
Manchester United activated Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause to sign him from Wolverhampton Wanderers in June. FPL managers will get to deploy him in a new position this season, with the league reclassifying him as a midfielder.
Cunha was a forward in the 2024/25 FPL season. However, after operating primarily as a No. 10 last term, he has dropped to the middle. Cunha is likely to hold his midfield role under Ruben Amorim at Man Utd.
Matheus Cunha Price and FPL Points in 2024/25
Last season, Matheus Cunha had a starting price of just £6.5 million. He scored 15 goals and claimed 7 assists for the Wolves, claiming 178 FPL points. He could see a marginal jump in price this season, but given his attacking prowess, he seems to be a must-pick from Man Utd.
As revealed in the 2025/26 Premier League calendar, Man Utd will begin their campaign with a clash against Arsenal on August 17. As per the best betting sites in the UK in July, the Red Devils have a 25/1 shot at winning the title this season.
Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United) – Forward from Midfielder
West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen has seen his position change from midfielder to forward in the 2025/26 FPL season. The Englishman got his reclassification after Graham Potter deployed him up top alongside Mohammed Kudus in his 3-5-2 system in the second half of the season.
Between Matchdays 24 and 38, he scored eight goals and provided five assists, primarily operating as a centre-forward. Despite his heroics, Bowen had no place in England’s squad in May, leading to fan backlash.
Jarrod Bowen Price and FPL Points in 2024/25
Jarrod Bowen started the 2024/25 FPL season at £7.5 million and ended at £7.9 million. He picked up a total of 193 points, averaging 5.7 points per start.
In FPL 2025/26, he is likely to have a starting price between £8.0 million and £8.5 million.
Omar Marmoush (Manchester City) – Midfielder from Forward
Manchester City man Omar Marmoush has been recategorised as a midfielder this season, having served as a forward last term. It does not come as a shock, as just 5 of his 16 Premier League appearances came as a centre-forward.
However, FPL did not make the same call last year, when Julian Alvarez played the majority of the previous campaign in midfield. The Argentine was a forward in FPL 2024/25, leading up to his move to Atletico Madrid.
Omar Marmoush Price and FPL Points in 2024/25
Omar Marmoush, who joined Man City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January, ended the 2024/25 FPL season at £7.4 million. He scored seven goals and provided two assists for the Cityzens, picking up a total of 73 points.
Marmoush is likely to start in Man City’s Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 16. According to the top football betting sites, away side Man City are heavy favourites to claim maximum points on the opening day.
Cody Gakpo (Liverpool) – Midfielder from Forward
Like Manchester City man Omar Marmoush, Cody Gakpo will also feature as a midfielder in the 2025/26 FPL season. He spent most of the 2024/25 season on the left flank, with Arne Slot never starting him as a centre-forward.
The switch to midfield should make Gakpo more attractive to FPL managers. Thanks to his attacking impetus and the Reds’ quality at the back, Gakpo would stand the chance to bag goal points as well as clean sheet points.
Cody Gakpo Price and FPL Points in 2024/25
Liverpool man Cody Gakpo was a £7.5 million forward in the 2024/25 FPL season. He amassed 127 points last season as a forward. Had he been a midfielder, Gakpo would have earned 134 points, thus validating the positional change.
Matheus Nunes (Man City) – Defender from Midfielder
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola loves to change things around, tinkering until he finds the most appropriate system for the players he has. Last season, the Spaniard had to extensively experiment with his line-up, as he often had to find replacements for unavailable players.
Matheus Nunes, who was reportedly arrested for stealing a fan’s phone in 2024, was heavily affected by it, with 14 of his 19 starts coming in defence. As a result, he will start the 2025/26 FPL season as a defender.

The FPL chiefs could buy Matheus Nunes for £5.0 million at the start of the 2024/25 season. Over the course of the campaign, he picked up 81 points in midfield. Had he started as a defender, he would have crossed the 100-point mark.
Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal) – Defender from Midfielder
Myles Lewis-Skelly was classified as a midfielder in the 2024/25 FPL season. However, after Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White, and Oleksandr Zinchenko became unavailable, Mikel Arteta deployed him as a left-back.
The youngster looked at home as a left-back and deservedly started in 15 of Arsenal’s last 23 Premier League games. In March, Lewis-Skelly became one of the youngest players in history to score for England.
Myles Lewis-Skelly Price and FPL Points in 2024/25
Myles Lewis-Skelly had a £4.5 million price tag in the 2024/25 FPL season. He played 23 Premier League matches, scoring once. The 18-year-old finished on 37 points.
Rodrigo Gomes (Wolves) – Defender from Midfielder
Rodrigo Gomes just started seven Premier League matches last season, with six of them coming as left wing-back. Considering his position, the switch from midfield to defence is hardly a surprise.
On paper, the change looks inconsequential. However, with Rayan Alt-Nouri switching to Man City, Gomes could enjoy a lot more game time on the left this season.

Rodrigo Gomes was priced at £5.1 million in the 2024/25 FPL season. He played 25 games in the English top flight, scoring twice and picking up 42 points.
Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham) – Midfielder from Defender
He recorded 574 minutes of football in 16 games, with him only making the starting XI 7 times. Four of his seven appearances came as a winger, which prompted the promotion from defence to midfield. Most FPL managers will not be too bothered by this change, though.

In his 16 Premier League appearances last season, Sessegnon scored 4 goals and claimed 2 assists. The £4.2 million man ended the season on 57 points.
Nico O’Reilly (Man City) – Defender from Midfielder
Like Matheus Nunes, Nico O’Reilly also played out of position in the 2024/25 Premier League season. A natural attacking midfielder, O’Reilly played nine games for Man City, starting seven. All six of his Premier League starts came as a left-back. Based on his positioning, O’Reilly has been classified as a defender in the 2025/26 FPL season.

The 20-year-old Englishman went for £4.9 million in the 2024/25 FPL season. He picked up 31 points, averaging 3.4 points per game.
Iliman Ndiaye (Everton) – Midfielder from Forward
Everton man Iliman Ndiaye was classified as a forward in the 2024/25 FPL season. However, neither Sean Dyche nor David Moyes saw him as a centre-forward. The Senegalese spent the majority of the season on the left flank, with a few appearances coming as an attacking midfielder and as a right winger. Naturally, FPL has reclassified him as a midfielder.
Iliman Ndiaye Price and FPL Points in 2024/25
Iliman Ndiaye cost £5.2 million in the 2024/25 FPL season. The 25-year-old played 33 games, scoring 9 goals. He ended the season with 114 points. His reclassification could make him a more attractive option for FPL managers this season.
Keane Lewis-Potter (Brentford) – Defender from Midfielder
Lastly, we have Brentford man Keane Lewis-Potter, who has been classified as a defender in the 2025/26 FPL season. Lewis-Potter got the designation after impressing as a left-back in the 2024/25 Premier League season.
After Rico Henry’s injury, Kristoffer Ajer, Vitaly Janelt, and Sepp van den Berg got opportunities to fill in at left-back. But after they failed to impress, Lewis-Potter got the nod on Matchday 11 and held the fort until the end of the season.
Keane Lewis-Potter Price and FPL Points in 2024/25
Keane Lewis-Potter had a purchase value of 5 million in the 2024/25 FPL season. He scored one goal and provided four assists in 36 games last term, picking up a total of 94 points.
