Ahead of the action, Gianni is looking at the third best Liverpool assets to buy. FPL Gameweek 23 Tips: Third Best Liverpool Players To Buy Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are a set and forget for most so let’s not discuss them ahead of a run where owning triple Liverpool is a must. Ipswich at home in gameweek 23, followed by a good double gameweek in 24 and then Wolves at home in 25 – we’re all going to want high investment in Liverpool. Are you backing an extra defender, extra attacker or even Arne Slot? Let’s rank them in order of my preference: Cody Gakpo – £7.4 Million Cody Gakpo is the third Liverpool player I’m likely to own. He’s blanked in his last two which I think is a good thing, as his ownership and price will stay low ahead of a great time to buy. Liverpool attackers not named Mo Salah are often referred to as a rotation risk, but Gakpo is different and having started the last 10 Premier League games on the left I think we can assume he’s firmly first choice as Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez compete for the number 9 role. Sure at times Diaz will play wide but as long as Gakpo is playing well he will hold the shirt and the Dutchman is clearly a favourite of his manager. Centre-Back Or Goalkeeper Double Liverpool defence isn’t as exciting as double attack and I don’t think it comes with the same upside potential as a move for Gakpo but opting for a Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate or even Alisson come with guaranteed minutes and likely two clean sheets in the next four with the chance of a goal from a centre-back who always offer goal threat knowing Liverpool’s set piece delivery is often on point. Which defender you opt for has to suit your structure and budget and whist van Dijk is obviously the best of the bunch, he doesn’t come cheap and in Konate you still have a solid option at £1.3 million less, a substantial saving. If you still own a Mark Flekken or Robert Sanchez in goal than a switch to Alisson makes sense. Arne Slot – Assistant Manager Chip The assistant manager chip will be available from gameweek 24 and with Liverpool kicking off with a double, Arne Slot becomes an option. Depending on your risk appetite investing in a manager than cannot reach the bonus points for beating or drawing a team five places above them in the table may be a turn off, it is for me. With winnable games ahead however an investment in Slot for the double against Bournemouth and Everton (both away games) to then transfer to a manager who can reach the bonus in 25 and 26 could be a smart play.
