Lossiemouth and Teahupoo Could Clash in Sunday’s Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse

This Sunday’s Hatton’s Grace Hurdle runners could see the two-time winner Teahupoo taking on the exciting grey mare Lossiemouth, who was pulled from last week’s Morgiana Hurdle with a sore foot.

Hatton’s Grace Hurdle 2024 Could Feature Two Hurdling Heavyweights

Fairyhouse horse racing spectators will be keeping a close eye on the news this week as there is a chance we could see top hurdlers Teahupoo and Lossiemouth as Hatton’s Grace Hurdle runners in Ireland on Sunday.

Lossiemouth was due to make her return to the track at Punchestown last Saturday but was pulled out on the morning of her Morgiana Hurdle bid – with the race being won by Brighterdayshead.

It was reported that the Willie Mullins star grey had a sore foot, and connections wanted to give her more time – which has resulted in Lossiemouth being a possible runner in the 2024 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle.

If she does take in the Fairyhouse Grade One on Sunday, she won’t, however, have it easy – as the winner of the last two runnings Teahupoo is also an intended Hatton’s Grace Hurdle runner.

This Gordon Elliott horse has the accolade as being the first horse to beat Honeysuckle. But Lossiemouth would get a handy 7lb mares weight allowance off Teahupoo.

At this stage the best horse racing betting sites in the UK has Teahupoo as the odds-on favourite – but only just with Lossiemouth a shade odds against.

Jetara, who was second to Ballyburn in the Champion Novices’ Hurdle last season, could also line-up in the race.

Teahupoo Looking To Be The Latest Hatton’s Grace Hat-Trick Winner

Having won the last two runnings of the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, Teahupoo will be looking to join Apple’s Jade and Honeysuckle as recent three-time winners of the race.

These classy mares won the Fairyhouse race three times each on the spin since 2016. With Apple’s Jade winning hers between 2016 and 2018, while Honeysuckle landed hers between 2019 and 2021.

While before that we saw the James Bowe-trained Solerina also win the Hatton’s Grace three times (2003, 2004 & 2005). Istabraq landed two and Limestone Lad three – just not on the spin.

Teahupoo will have the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival as his target later in the season, where he’s currently heading the market with the best betting sites in the UK.

At this stage he could face just three others – as along with Lossiemouth, there are only two other declared runners – Beacon Edge and Maxxum.

Meaning, if all four line-up trainer Gordon Elliott will have three of the runners – Elliott also needs one more win in the Hatton’s Grace to become the joint winning-most trainer with James Bowe, who had six winners.
