Holly Shand runs through the best differential picks for each position as we head into FPL Gameweek 25.

There’s a second FPL double gameweek in quick succession, with Liverpool and Aston Villa the sides who have a pair of fixtures to accumulate points over a potential 180 minutes. So who are the best low-owned picks in each position?

FPL Gameweek 25 Best Differential in each position

Defender: Lucas Digne vs Ipswich Town (H), Liverpool (H)

Aston Villa’s defence provides plenty of differential routes, with Lucas Digne their highest owned option and the highest scoring in the game too. He continues to hold off the challenge of Ian Maatsen for minutes but has only played 270 minutes over the last four gameweeks.

Digne also carries the most attacking threat of Aston Villa’s defenders from the left-back spot, amassing four assists in this campaign, ranking him seventh among all defenders for this metric. He has been unlucky not to deliver more, having produced 12 big chance creations.

Clean sheet hopes will be high for the visit of Ipswich Town in the first of their two double gameweek fixtures, with the Tractor Boys scoring just two goals in four. However, Villa do face an injury crisis going into this game, with Matty Cash, Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa, and Tyrone Mings all doubtful.

Midfielder: Dominik Szoboszlai vs Wolves (H), Aston Villa (A)

Dominik Szobozlai (£6.3m) is the best budget route into Liverpool’s attack for their second double gameweek in quick succession, although for those not yet tripled up on Liverpool, using the Assistant Manager chip on Arne Slot would be the optimal play here.

Despite this, Szoboszlai is thriving in his advanced central role, with one goal and one assist in the last four gameweeks at the time of writing, taking him to nine attacking returns in 16 starts this season. He’s also a relative differential in the game, in just 2.8% of teams.

Szoboszlai also found himself on the scoresheet in Liverpool’s 4-0 League Cup victory against Spurs last midweek before being given a full rest in the FA Cup last weekend. Keep an eye on his minutes against Everton in their final Double Gameweek 24 fixture before investing.

Forward: Jean-Philippe Mateta vs Everton (H)

A lack of double gameweek options among forwards means that we are forced to look elsewhere, but there’s a very promising single gameweek option to consider from a Crystal Palace side who have won three of their last four games in the Premier League.

Striker Jean-Philippe Mateta can match template strikers Chris Wood and Alexander Isak for output in 2025, scoring six goals in the last five gameweeks to take him up to ten goals for the campaign. He looks set to improve on his tally of 16 goals from the 2023/24 season.

Mateta’s underlying numbers are equally impressive, having had eight shots in the box and seven big chances on goal in this period. Mateta is also on penalties for Crystal Palace, having converted from the spot on two occasions in the league this season.
