Manchester United have reportedly launched a £55 million bid to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo – but how would his arrival affect the club?
According to reports, Manchester United have tabled a formal bid for Bryan Mbeumo.
Worth £45 million, the offer also includes up to £10 million in add-ons and bonuses.
Personal terms aren’t expected to be an issue, with United willing to meet Mbeumo’s wage demands.
Despite currently earning £50,000 per week, it is thought he is demanding closer to £250,000 at United.
The Brentford star, 25, is said to have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with United, choosing them over several rivals.
First Man United Mbeumo Bid Likely To Be Rejected By Brentford
Mbeumo might be happy with United’s terms, but Brentford are not.
It is expected that the west London outfit are holding out for around £60 million.
This would make Mbeumo Brentford’s record sale, eclipsing the £40 million paid by Al-Ahli for Ivan Toney last year.
Brentford are likely to point to United’s other signing so far as justification of this price tag.
United have activated Matheus Cunha’s release clause, making the Wolves man their first signing of the summer.
With Cunha costing £62.5 million, Brentford will argue their man is worth an equal figure.
And with the fee for Cunha to be paid in three instalments, United still have some financial clout to sign more reinforcements.
They will be much needed, with Ruben Amorim’s side finishing a dreadful 15th in the Premier League.
But while they are able to sign Mbeumo, how would his arrival affect the club?

How Would Bryan Mbeumo Transfer Affect Manchester United PSR?
In January, Manchester United told fans: “If we do not act now, we are in danger of falling to comply with PSR/FFP requirements.
“We are currently making a significant loss each year – totalling over £300m in the past three years. This is not sustainable.
“We will have to make some difficult choices. That has included a significant reduction to our workforce as well as cuts across many areas of spend across our club.
These cuts saw Manchester United scrap stewards’ bonuses, and there was widespread backlash after the club planned to cut Disabled Supporters’ Association funding in half.
“We do not expect fans to make up all the current shortfall – but we do need to look at our ticketing strategy to ensure we are charging the right amount, and offering the right discounts, across our products for our fans,” continued the statement.

The club’s failure to qualify for European competition is another major blow.
It is estimated that United’s Europa League final defeat will cost around £100 million in revenue.
As a result, further unpopular cuts are likely from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
With £62 million already earmarked for the Cunha deal, the club will likely have to sell some players.
And Mbeumo’s signing means that outgoings to balance the books are even more probable.
Who Is Leaving Manchester United This Summer?
There are some big names already on United’s transfer list.
Both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have been told they will be allowed to leave.
Rashford spent time on loan as Aston Villa this season. But the Midlands club opted not to exercise their £40 million buy option after failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Garnacho, meanwhile, has been brutally axed from manager Ruben Amorim’s plans.
The Argentine was reportedly given a scathing dressing down in front of the squad, with Amorim telling him to ‘pray’ he can find a new club.
But while Rashford and Garnacho are expected to leave, others could follow.
Popular faces such as captain Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo may also be sold if the right offer is made.
Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Dan Gore are all entering the final year of their contracts.
United may therefore wish to cash in on some or all of those four players too.

With Rashford, Garnacho and Fernandes likely on their way out, some new faces will be needed.

Bryan Mbeumo’s stats for Brentford have been nothing short of remarkable this season.
With 20 goals and eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances, he was join fourth in the league’s scoring charts.
In total, Mbeumo has 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances for the Bees.
He arrived from French club Troyes for just £5.5 million in 2019.
