Brentford striker Igor Thiago is closing in on the all-time record for the most goals scored by a Brazilian in a single Premier League season.

Igor Thiago Closes In On Premier League Record

In-form Brentford forward Igor Thiago is closing in on a Premier League record.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Bees from Club Brugge for around ÂŁ30m last year, is nearing the all-time record for the most goals scored by a Brazilian in a single season in the division.

With 11 league goals to his name thus far this term, he is just four goals away from matching the current record, jointly held by Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Martinelli and Matheus Cunha.

It’ll take a while before he becomes the league’s highest-ever scoring Brazilian however, as that title is held by ex-Liverpool star Firmino, who netted 82 league goals during his time at Anfield.

Thiago is currently the Premier League’s second-highest scorer in 2025/26, only three goals behind Manchester City’s ever-impressive two-time Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland.

Haaland broke a record of his own recently. He became the highest scorer in a World Cup qualifying campaign with 16 goals as Norway sealed their spot at next summer’s tournament.

Meanwhile, Thiago added another two to his tally in his side’s 3-1 win over Burnley on Saturday.

It follows on from a goal from the spot in the defeat by Brighton the weekend prior, as well as a brace in the 3-1 win over Eddie Howe’s Newcastle ahead of November’s international window.

He also netted in the 3-2 win over Liverpool last month and bagged a brace in the Bees’ 3-2 triumph over Manchester United at the Gtech Community Stadium at the end of September.

His goals have been key in Brentford enjoying a strong start to the English top-flight campaign.

Many had tipped newly appointed Keith Andrews to lose his job early on, while also tipping the Bees for relegation. After 10 games though, they find themselves in a respectable 10th place.

As a result, Andrews is seen as an outsider in the Premier League sack race, priced at 50/1.

Aston Villa Eye January Swoop for Thiago

Unsurprisingly, teams are beginning to take notice of Thiago’s impressive displays.

Reports suggest Aston Villa are lining up a ÂŁ50 million bid for the forward in January, as they see him as the long-term replacement for out-of-form England international Ollie Watkins.

Emery is said to be a huge fan of Thiago and is keen for Villa to splash the cash on the striker.

Brentford, meanwhile, are keen on keeping hold of their number nine, who has been tipped to force his way into Brazil’s squad ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America.

Andrews confirmed that chiefs at the Brazilian FA have made contact.

“There’s been contact from Brazil. They’re very aware of his qualities and it’s a big dream for him. So hopefully we can work together to one day make that happen.

“It’s an aspiration of Thiago to play for the national team.”

If his current output levels continue, he undoubtedly has a strong chance of achieving just that.

He and Brentford face a tough run of fixtures over the next few weeks though, which may hinder his progress. Next up, they face table-toppers Arsenal before travelling to Tottenham.

They also face a trip to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in two weeks’ time.
