Serie A Side Make Light Work Of Underwhelming Feyenoord

The Italian side already had one foot in the Champions League quarter finals after winning the opening RO16 leg 2-0 in the Netherlands – but they didn’t give Feyenoord any hope at the San Siro.

Inter started the match superbly and were ahead after just eight minutes, as Marcus Thuram scored his third goal of this UCL campaign.

The Frenchman received the ball from Carlos Augusto and weaved his way past through the Feyenoord defence before smashing the ball into the top right corner.

Just eight minutes later the hosts almost doubled their lead through Mehdi Taremi, as the Algerian forced a great save from Timon Wellenreuther.

Feyenoord created very little in the opening 45 minutes but were handed a lifeline just before the break after Jakub Moder appeared to be tripped inside the area.

After a VAR review the visitors were awarded a penalty and Moder managed to convert the penalty that his hard work had won.

Feyenoord would have gone into the half-time interval with some hope after scoring their first goal of the tie, however, after just five minutes of the second 45 Inter were awarded a penalty of their own.

Defender, Thomas Beelen, put in a clumsy challenge and left the referee no choice but to point to the spot – leaving Hakan Calhanoglu with the responsibility from 12 yards.

The Turkish international made no mistake and Inter regained their lead in the match while also extending their aggregate advantage to 4-1.

Inter looked to have won another penalty in the 67th minute as the referee pointed to the spot for another foul by Beelen – however this decision was overturned by VAR.

Feyenoord failed to generate any sort of comeback and the match dwindled out meaning Inter booked their place in the UCL quarter finals.
