Aaron Ramsey Is Still Playing Football – Having Joined Mexican Side Pumas UNAM In July 2025Â
Many football fans thought Welsh footballer could be calling time on his playing career after taking up the role as caretaker manager with boyhood club Cardiff City in 2025.
However, over the summer Ramsey was enticed back into playing full-time when Mexican top-flight side Pumas UNAM came knocking for the 34 year-old.
Pumas signed Ramsey in July 2025 from his previous club Cardiff City and he’s already hit the ground running scoring for his new club.
This goal came in a 1-0 win over Atlas on Sunday 31st August – which also led to more speculation the well-known Aaron Ramsey curse is real – after fashion icon Giorgio Armani died just four days after this goal.
The Aaron Ramsey curse is believed to revolve around the Welshman scoring and a famous person then unfortunately dying soon after.
In joining the Mexican side, Ramsey has gone on record as saying he wants to try and play for Wales in the 2026 World Cup – with a return to playing set to help him maintain his fitness and chances of making the squad.
Welsh manager Craig Bellamy has backed Ramsey too – saying he’s still got a future in the national team.
Wales are currently third in Group J, with North Macedonia and Belgium also in their group, with the football betting sites making Wales 500/1 to win the 2026 World Cup.
Who Are Pumas UNAM FC?
Pumas UNAM are in Liga MX, which is the Mexican top-flight division.
They are currently sitting mid-table during the early part of the new 2025/26 season.
Over the years the Pumas have won Liga MX seven times, with their most recent title being the Clausura 2011 championship.
Their nickname is the Pumas and were founded in 1954, with their current head coach Efrain Juarez.
