This year’s Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot has a real international feel to it, with sprinting stars from all over the world holding entries. One of which is the Japan speedster SATONO REVE, who will be flying the Far East flag. But has a Japanese horse ever won a race at Royal Ascot?

Japanese Sprinting Star Satono Reve Looking To Create Royal Ascot History

Over the last 20 years the five-day Royal Ascot meeting has been a far more international affair than it used to be.

Yes, the fixture has had runners from Ireland and France for decades, but in more recent times the appeal of winning a Royal Ascot race has spread far wider.

This is backed up with winners from Australia that have included the classy Black Caviar winning the Diamond Jubilee Stakes back in 2012.

While despite not having any runners at the 2025 meeting, US trainer Wesley Ward has saddled 12 Royal Ascot over the years and is another handler that’s helped give the meeting more of an international feel.

The appeal this year has spread to the Far East too – as Japanese sprinting star SATONO REVE looks to add his name to the international Royal Ascot roll-of-honour.

This winner of eight races in his homeland holds an entry in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes on Saturday 21st June. With the Group One 6f race holding a massive first prize of £567,100.

Satono Reve will take on leading French hope Lazzat – who many people are suggesting this is one of the Royal Ascot bankers for 2025.

Plus the Japanese horse will also face one of the big Aidan O’Brien Royal Ascot runners in Storm Boy, who was formerly trained in Australia.

Satono Reve Would Be Japan’s FIRST-EVER Royal Ascot Winner 

Japan had their first Royal Ascot runner in 2004 when Ingrandire finished ninth in the Gold Cup.

In total there’s been ten runners for Japan at Royal Ascot, with Shahryar’s fourth in the 2022 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes their best finish so far.

However, there are high hopes that Satono Reve can improve on that record and the best horse racing sites in the UK agree – making him the general third favourite in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes market.

In recent year’s horses trained in Japan have certainly left their mark in some of the big races around the world.

Ushba Tesoro won the 2023 Dubai World Cup, while Shin Emperor was third in the Irish Champion Stakes in 2024.

Plus, who can forget Forever Young running a close third in the 2024 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Japanese-Trained Royal Ascot Runners

Ryan Moore Gives Satono Reve A Workout at Newmarket 

With Satono Reve already in the UK, top jockey Ryan Moore was also asked to give the Japanese horse a spin at Newmarket this week.

The pair flew down the July Course at HQ over 5 furlongs (watch below).

With trainer Noriyuki Hori watching too and saying.

“After arriving from Hong Kong, Satono Reve had some time to recover before steadily building up his training.

“Today, we completed his final gallop before the race – a five-furlong piece on the July Course at Newmarket, ridden by Ryan Moore.

“Although it is a different environment from what he is used to, he has been coming along well thanks to the warm support of James Horton, his team and everyone involved.”

However, with Ballydoyle’s Storm Boy in the race, Ryan Moore, who has won this Royal Ascot race three times since 2016, is expected to ride him.

Satono Reve has been ridden in his last three races by Joao Moreira.
