Joey Essex Set For Misfits Boxing Debut

Reality television star Joey Essex is set to face off against Portuguese influencer Numeiro in his first-ever boxing fight at Misfits 22 – Ring of Thrones in Manchester next month.

The 34-year-old, who has famously featured on The Only Way is Essex, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Love Island, was announced as part of the card on 16 July.

Following the announcement, Essex told iFL TV: “(It’s a) long time coming, with negotiations and timing. I said to Mams (Taylor): ‘We’ve got to do this, I really want to do it.’ Also, I need to do it now. I’m ready to fight.

“I can’t wait. This is the first of many. Get this out the way, and then the plan is to move onto bigger and better names and cash in.”

Clashing during Wednesday evening’s press conference, Essex and Numeiro had some choice words for one another as Misfits founder KSI watched on from the back of the stage.

Numeiro, who boasts over 700,000 followers on Instagram, told the reality star: “If you’re going to wear glasses for a couple of bruises, you might need a welding helmet after this fight.”

He continued: “I’m very excited for this fight. I’m here to represent my country – Portugal.”

Essex hit back with: “You seem like you’re shi**ing yourself,” and proceeded to mimic Numeiro’s stutter. He also likened the influencer’s appearance to a ‘baked bean’.

The TikTok star responded: “Yeah bro, this is not my main language, you know? Yeah? I think you should relax. This is not Love Island; this is boxing.”

Essex’s middleweight boxing debut will take place on 30 August at the Manchester Arena and the social media star is favourite with UK betting sites.

The event is set to be headlined by former UFC stars Darren Till and Luke Rockhold, while Dillon Danis will face Warren Spencer in an MMA bout, the first in Misfits history, on the undercard.

Salt Papi and Tony Ferguson are also due to clash in a middleweight boxing fight.
