Liverpool will once again be without the injured Florian Wirtz as Arne Slot bids to save his job against PSV in the Champions League.

The German international is the biggest miss on Liverpool’s injury list, with two other key first team players set to miss out against the Eredivisie leaders.

Liverpool Injury Woes Continue As Arne Slots Bids To Save His Job

Arne Slot needs a win on Wednesday night in the Champions League or else his reign as Liverpool manager could come to an abrupt ending.

If Slot is to save his job and beat Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven, he will have to do so without £100million summer signing Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool fans will be looking for any kind of positive news at the minute, and a key player returning from injury would have been a welcomed bonus.

However, that isn’t the case with Slot forced to utilise the same squad he had at his disposal in Saturday’s 3-0 embarrassing home thrashing to Nottingham Forest.

The Reds have secured nine points from a possible 12 in the Champions League league phase, with the Dutch outfit managing five points from their opening four games.

After Tuesday’s training session at the AXA Training Centre ahead of Wednesday’s clash with PSV, it looks like Wirtz will be sidelined for a second successive match.

Despite being one of the highest FPL price crashes in the last decade, Wirtz remains central to boss Arne Slot’s plans at the Reds. The German hasn’t exactly hit the ground running since arriving in Merseyside, and his woes are set to continue.

The attacking midfielder missed Saturday’s 3-0 humbling at Anfield to Nottingham Forest, and has been officially ruled out of Wednesday’s PSV clash with the same minor muscle injury.

Wirtz picked the injury up when on international duty with Germany. He has been unable to shake it off, despite Slot previously stating that he didn’t expect the £100m man to miss many games.

“Florian Wirtz is unable to play. That’s far from ideal,” Slot admitted prior to Liverpool’s defeat to Nottingham Forest. Those sentiments remain the same for Wednesday’s European clash under the Anfield lights.

Arne Slot Bids To Save His Job Despite Liverpool Injury List Remaining Lengthy

Along with Florian Wirtz missing Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Eredivisie pace setters PSV, several other first team players remain on the Liverpool injury list.

If Reds boss Arne Slot is to save his job, he will have to do so without defenders Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong for at least another week.

Northern Ireland’s Bradley was magnificent in the Reds’ last European game against Real Madrid, marking Vinicius Jr out of the game in dominant fashion.

Unfortunately for Slot and Liverpool fans, Bradley remains on the injury list and is set to miss the PSV game midweek with an ongoing muscle problem.

Frimpong didn’t partake in Tuesday’s training session either, indicating that it’s too soon for him to return to action following his hamstring injury.

Teenage centre-back Giovanni Leoni is obviously out for the rest of the season following ACL surgery, meaning Liverpool are incredibly weak at the back.

Any further injuries to key defenders in the next week or two and this season really could turn into a complete disaster for the Anfield outfit. That’s if it isn’t already.

With Liverpool’s title defence ranked among the worst in Premier League history, Slot will be hoping for success in Europe’s leading competition with the Reds chasing a seventh Champions League triumph.

A win against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday would help paper over the cracks and save Slot’s job, at least for the time being.
