Watch the highlights as Newcastle United defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup Final, securing their first major domestic trophy since 1955.

Dan Burn and Alexander Isak were the heroes for the Magpies with a goal each either side of half-time.

Liverpool, flying high in the Premier League, came into the final as favourites, but Newcastle’s disciplined performance saw them lift the silverware at Wembley.

With both teams missing key players – Trent Alexander-Arnold absent for Liverpool and Anthony Gordon suspended for Newcastle – the stage was set for a tightly contested clash.

The game began at a slow pace, with both sides cautiously feeling each other out. Sandro Tonali had the first real attempt, sending a shot just wide of Caoimhin Kelleher’s post.

Newcastle, however, grew into the game, and as the first half wore on, their confidence increased.

The breakthrough came at the perfect time for Eddie Howe’s side. Just before the break, Dan Burn found space in the box and rose highest to meet Kieran Trippier’s corner, heading past Kelleher to give Newcastle a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.

Newcastle thought they had doubled their advantage early in the second half when Isak tapped in a rebound, but Bruno Guimarães was adjudged to be offside and interfering with play.

However, Newcastle didn’t dwell on their misfortune. Just two minutes later, Isak capitalised on another chance – this time making no mistake as he slotted home to give his side a commanding 2-0 lead.

Liverpool struggled to break through Newcastle’s resilient defence, and although Federico Chiesa pulled one back in stoppage time, it was too little, too late for Arne Slot’s side.

As Newcastle celebrate their long-awaited triumph, they head into the international break with a historic victory to savour. Their focus will then turn back to the Premier League, where they are still in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

Liverpool, meanwhile, must regroup quickly as they turn their attention back to the title race. Having been dumped out of three competitions in the space of a month, the Reds will have to settle for just the one trophy to cap off their season.
