Arne Slot’s Liverpool side took a huge step towards the Premier League title by beating Newcastle 2-0 on Wednesday night and you can find our player ratings for both sides below. Liverpool vs Newcastle Player Ratings Liverpool Player Ratings Alisson – 6 Hard to rate him higher than a 6 as he had little to nothing to do. Didn’t have to make a save but dealt well with a couple of crosses into the box. Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6 Some nice passes but also took some unneccessary risks. Head went down after some misplaced passes. Ibrahima Konate – 6.5 Caught napping in the opening stages and was relieved that Callum Wilson’s lob went over the crossbar. However, settled down thereafter and did well to keep the visitors at bay. Virgil van Dijk – 7 Uneventful game for the Dutchman who looked at ease throughout the 90 minutes. Konate and Van Dijk were helped by the absence of Alexander Isak who Newcastle fans hope will be back to play the Reds at the Carabao Cup final. Kostas Tsimikas – 7 Filled in well for Andy Robertson who was given a rest, winning six duels, making four tackles and one clearance. Limited the threat of Jacob Murphy. Ryan Gravenberch – 7 Wasn’t given much room with Anthony Gordon tasked with sitting on him every time Liverpool were in possession. However, he hardly put a foot wrong and delivered a smooth performance which Liverpool fans have been accustomed to this season. Alexis Mac Allister – 8 Blasted in Liverpool’s second goal to seal the match but was also neat and tidy with his passing and helped the Reds win the midfield battle against Newcastle United. Dominik Szoboszlai – 8.5 Has found his best form at Liverpool this season and is a huge asset to Arne Slot’s side with the amount of running he does per-game. Scored Liverpool’s opener in the first-half and the Hungary captain never appears to tire – at least until the final whistle has blown. Man of the match in our Liverpool vs Newcastle Player Ratings. Dominik Szoboszlai scored Liverpool’s first goal Mohamed Salah – 8 Will be disappointed that he didn’t add to his 25 Premier League goals this term. However, he again showed some real moments of quality, taking three Newcastle players out of the picture before passing to Alexis Mac Allister for Liverpool’s second. Diogo Jota – 6 Quiet performance from the Portuguese forward. The sort of display which will make it hard for him to keep his place in the starting XI over Cody Gakpo who has took his chances this season. Luis Diaz – 8 Lively and energetic performance from the Colombian who delivered some final end product too with a well-placed pass for Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener. Caused Tino Livramento plenty of issues. There's breathing room for Liverpool as Alexis Mac Allister doubles the lead 🎯 📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/IMKJjO0KII — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) February 26, 2025 Substitutes Cody Gakpo (On for Diogo Jota 62′) – 6 The Dutchman tried his best to add a third with an audacious effort that went wide and another shot which was blocked. Wataru Endo (On for Ryan Gravenberch 76′) – 7 The perfect player for Arne Slot to bring on when defending a lead. His relentless energy is always appreciated when he features for the Reds. Jarrel Quansah (On for Trent Alexander-Arnold 77′) – 6 Brought on to give Trent Alexander-Arnold a rest and was solid in his short cameo. Curtis Jones (On for Alexis Mac Allister 87′) – N/A Darwin Nunez (On for Luis Diaz 87′) – N/A Newcastle Player Ratings Eddie Howe’s side struggled against Liverpool Nick Pope – 5 Slightly unsighted for the first goal but it was still a weak shot that he could have done better with. Looked nervy at times and flapped at a cross in the second-half which almost led to a third. Tino Livramento – 5.5 Caught out defensively on a number of occasions as Luis Diaz caused him some problems. Fabian Schar – 5 Failed to cut out Luis Diaz’s assist for Dominik Szoboszlai and put in a few clumsy challenges. Dan Burn – 6 Ball rolled through his legs for Liverpool’s opener but also could have had an assist after setting Callum Wilson through on goal. Solid in defence. Lewis Hall – 7 Similar to the victory against Nottingham Forest he was Newcastle’s best performer and dealt well with Mohamed Salah for an hour. Started to tire from there on but an encouraging display for the youngster. Sandro Tonali – 5 Not the best performance from the Italian who let Dominik Szoboszlai burst into the box for Liverpool’s opener before misplacing a pass in the build-up to the second. Bruno Guimaraes – 5 Had some tidy moments on the ball but bizarelly decided to run away from Alexis Mac Allister leaving the Liverpool man unmarked in the box for their second. Joe Willock – 5.5 Got into some decision positions but appeared to lack the quality and belief to cause Liverpool any real problems and could have done more against Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jacob Murphy – 5.5 Lacked conviction going against Kostas Tsimikas and his crossing was off. Booked for a cynical foul on Mohamed Salah. Callum Wilson – 4 Newcastle missed Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson looked rusty against Liverpool. Missed a glorious opportunity to make it 1-1, was caught offside a couple of times and lacked the pace and dribbiling ability that Isak brings to the Newcastle forward line. Receives the lowest score in our Liverpool vs Newcastle Player Ratings. Anthony Gordon – 6 Determination was there but tactics didn’t suit his game as he often drifted inside to mark Ryan Gravenberch. Substitutes Lewis Miley (On Sandro Tonali 69’) – 7 Perhaps unfortunate to be dropped to the bench after an impressive showing against Nottingham Forest. Showed composure on the ball and made a few important tackles. William Osula (On for Callum Wilson 69’) – 5.5 Very little service and had no joy against Virgil van Dijk the few times he did touch the ball. Harvey Barnes (On for Joe Willock 69′) – 5 Another Newcastle substitute who struggled to make an impact – rarely touching the ball during the final 20 minutes. Kieran Trippier (On for Tino Livramento 73′) – 6 Was solid defensively when he was brought on and made one vital clearance. Sean Longstaff (On for Bruno Guimaraes 88′) – N/A Written by Sports EditorKieran Lynch Kieran Lynch is a sports writer specialising in football and Formula One.
