The Man City vs Plymouth FA Cup tie was correctly predicted by a football fan after this weekend’s action concluded.

On Monday night, the fifth round draw was made. This pitted the current Premier League champions up against the EFL Championship basement dwellers.

City came from behind to beat Leyton Orient 2-1 on Saturday after Jamie Donley’s wonder strike put the O’s in front via a rebound off Stefan Ortega.

Second-half goals from Abdukodir Khusanov and Kevin De Bruyne sparred the Cityzens blushes at the Gaughn Group Stadium.

The Pilgrims created the biggest upset of the fourth round. Miron Muslic’s side joined an elite list of lower league sides who knocked out the current top-flight leaders.

Ryan Hardie scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after Harvey Elliot handled in the box. Sunday’s shock was one of the biggest in the competition’s history in recent years.

Man City Vs Plymouth FA Cup Fifth Round

Granted, at this stage of the FA Cup it’s a lot easier to correctly predict a tie being drawn. However, a football fan on X (formerly Twitter) went one better and called two on Sunday night.

Furthermore, the draw itself saw many turn to the social media platform and claimed it was ‘rigged.’ The anguish itself was directly hinting at the Man City vs Plymouth fixture.

User Craig Ellis (@CraggerRagger) posted on Sunday evening whether City would play the Pilgrims at the Etihad or at Home Park. This was perhaps a light-hearted jibe at how Pep Guardiola’s side get ‘easy’ draws.

Within the same post, Craig correctly indicated that Man United would play a home tie against a fellow Premier League side. Which of course they did as Fulham will travel to Old Trafford.

Naturally, a plethora of football fans shared their dismay at the Cityzens playing potentially the lowest-ranked side left in the competition.

‘These cheap draws for City. Ryan what you got?,’ said one user. The reference to ‘Ryan’ is for Greens hero Ryan Hardie, who scored the winner against Liverpool.

Another simply bemoaned ‘corruption and bribery’ whereas a third posted: ‘Utd have had Arsenal, Leicester, Fulham City have had Salford, Leyton Orient, and Plymouth. Shock.’

Unsurprisingly, City are the 5/2 favourites with the best football betting sites in the UK to win the 2025 FA Cup. Especially now the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all out.
