Manchester United have received positive news in their persistent pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Swedish striker has reportedly turned down a massive offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, as he wants to continue his career in Europe.
Man Utd could still have to fight for Gyokeres, as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Juventus are also keeping tabs on him.
Manchester United Eager to Sign a Striker This Summer
After finishing enduring a trophyless, 15th-placed finish in 2024/25, Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd are eyeing a major revamp. Making the most of the first summer transfer window (June 1–10), United have brought a couple of fine reinforcements.
They activated Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause to sign him from Wolverhampton Wanderers. They have also signed Paraguayan youngster Diego Lean for an initial £3 million fee. The 17-year-old will arrive at the club in July and will be a part of the academy.
However, the most desired addition on Man Utd’s wishlist — a prolific striker — remains elusive. Bryan Mbeumo, Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres — many strikers have been linked with a move to Old Trafford. We have even analysed how Mbeumo would improve Man Utd, but there has been little progress on that front.

Man Utd Handed Huge Boost As Viktor Gyokeres Rejects Al Hilal
As per Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd are going all-in for Viktor Gyokeres, calling his entourage on a “daily basis”. While the deal is nowhere close to being done, L’Equipe reports they have received a boost in their pursuit.
According to the French outlet, Al Hilal contacted Gyokeres’ team to prize the striker away to Saudi Arabia. They offered a £30 million-a-year deal to Gyokeres and a £55 million transfer fee to Sporting. The 27-year-old striker, however, quickly rejected the offer, as he wishes to continue in Europe for the foreseeable future.

United, Arsenal, Juventus, and Chelsea remain on the hunt for his services. Of the four, Man Utd’s project is by far the most challenging. However, Gyokeres will get to play under his former manager, Ruben Amorim. He enjoyed a magnificent run under the Portuguese boss, recording 66 goals and 19 assists in 68 games.
Since joining from Coventry City in July 2023, Gyokeres has played 102 games for Sporting. He has scored a whopping 97 goals and provided 28 assists. His contract with the club expires in June 2028.
Rasmus Hojlund Deal Hits a Snag
To sign a striker without flirting with the Profit and Sustainability Rules, Man Utd must offload at least one forward this summer. As things stand, Rasmus Hojlund seems to be the favourite to leave.
The Mancunians reportedly want to sell the Danish forward for around £40 million. Italian sides Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli are interested in the striker. However, they want to sign him on loan. It will be interesting to see if Man Utd change their minds after entering advanced talks with any of their shortlisted strikers.

Hojlund joined Man Utd from Atalanta for an initial £64 million in the summer of 2023. So far, he has played 95 games, scoring 26 goals. His contract expires on June 30, 2028.
