Manchester City are closing in on a move to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon this summer after agreeing to personal terms with the young Frenchman.
Manchester City Agree Personal Terms With Rayan Cherki
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City have agreed to personal terms with Rayan Cherki ahead of his proposed summer move. The Cityzens are now expected to send an official bid to Lyon.
The Ligue 1 outfit are expected to command a fee of around ÂŁ25-ÂŁ35m.
Romano wrote on X: “Understand Manchester City and Rayan Cherki have reached an agreement on personal terms!
“Official bid from Manchester City to Olympique Lyon will be submitted in the next hours in order to advance after initial club to club talks starter over the weekend.”

The news comes just hours after City agreed a deal to sign Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan. According to reports, the Netherlands international is set to join the 10-time English champions for an initial ÂŁ46.3m fee.
Cherki, who has also been linked with Liverpool, is currently away on international duty with France. He could feature for Les Bleus on Thursday night as they take on Spain in the Nations League semi-finals.
City’s interest in the 21-year-old came after they withdrew their interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. It is believed that a move for the highly sought-after German youngster was deemed too expensive by the club.
Cherki is expected to be available for the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States, alongside soon-to-be-announced Reijnders, while Pep Guardiola is expected to make one further addition to his squad too.
Etihad chiefs are said to be eyeing reinforcements for the left-back position. Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri is among those linked with a move to the North West, and he’ll reportedly cost around ÂŁ40-ÂŁ50m.

Rayan Cherki: “I’m Ready For Any System”
In an interview with L’Equipe ahead of France’s huge Nations League clash this week, Cherki was quizzed about the difference in styles between City and Liverpool and was asked whether he’d be able to fit in.
He replied: âIâm ready for any system. I work every day, physically and mentally, to be ready. Above all, Iâm trying to choose the best option for me, to develop as a person and a footballer.â
Asked if he’s definitely leaving Lyon this summer, Cherki responded: âYouâre never sure of anything. But Iâll say it: I did what I wanted to do at OL, be a true Lyonnais and give everything for my club.
“I didnât leave the ship in difficulty. I stayed, I gritted my teeth, I cried, I laughed, I was scared. But a man has to be like that, itâs part of his DNA. Even when itâs hard, even when you cry, even when youâre scared, you have to go to war for your club.â
Rayan Cherki Stats 2024-25
Cherki enjoyed the most prolific season of his career in 2024-25, registering eight goals and 11 assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances. He finished the campaign as the division’s top assister, alongside Gaetan Perrin and Bradley Barcola.
Across all competitions, he made 44 appearances, scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists.
He also played a key role in Lyon’s run to the Europa League quarter-finals.
Standout performances include a goal and two assists in a crucial win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the league phase, as well as in both legs of the last 16, where he provided four assists over two games against FCSB.
Cherki also scored a goal in each leg against Manchester United in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately for him and his teammates, this wasn’t enough to advance, as they suffered a heartbreaking extra-time defeat at Old Trafford.
