Manchester United Star JJ Gabriel Could Become Club’s Youngest-Ever Player

Manchester United youth prospect JJ Gabriel could become the club’s youngest-ever player in their FA Cup clash with Brighton.

The highly talented forward, 15, is one of the club’s brightest talents emerging from the youth academy.

Interim boss Darren Fletcher knows Gabriel all too well, having been a key figure in his Under-18 side this campaign.

Despite playing in an age group three years ahead, he’s scored 10 goals in 13 matches, including two hat-tricks against Derby County and Liverpool.

In an FA Cup youth tie just last month, Gabriel became the youngest player to ever feature in the competition, which is further evidence that the club rates his potential so highly.

Who is Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel?

Gabriel is primarily a centre-forward, but like most modern-day attacking players, is versatile on the left wing and behind the frontman.

He’s known for his technical ability, explosive finishing power, and his impressive mentality that allows him to remain unfazed when playing against much older opponents.

Gabriel has also played for England at Under-16 level and is identified as a player who could have a huge future with the Three Lions.

The player joined United’s academy in 2022 and spent time with various academies in London, such as Arsenal and Chelsea.

Gabriel has trained with the first team on numerous occasions, including on Monday, as he stepped closer to playing with the senior squad.

Angel Gomes became the club’s youngest player aged 16 and eight months when he featured against Crystal Palace in 2017, but Gabriel has that record firmly in his sights.

Can Manchester United keep JJ Gabriel?

Barcelona have reportedly held a keen interest, and United technical director Jason Wilcox has worked tirelessly in an attempt to convince the player that his future belongs in Manchester.

Last year, the player signed a two-year agreement that will keep him at Old Trafford until his 16th birthday. He is only able to sign professional terms when he turns 17.

After signing an agreement, he took to social media to write: “Things are different now”, which was followed up by a hashtag that read: “fulltime”.

Wilcox invited Gabriel and his family to the Director’s Box, where he reiterated that Manchester United see the player as a big part of their future.

An appearance in the FA Cup will only help encourage Gabriel that he is on the pathway to becoming a first-team player in the near future.

With Fletcher set to take charge for a final time, his relationship with the player could be key in handing Gabriel his debut.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to take over in the near future, with Oliver Glasner the favourite to be the next Manchester United manager in the long term.

In comparison, Arsenal have not been shy in slowly introducing Max Dowman, who made his club debut against Leeds aged 15 in August.

United are prepared to give Gabriel a taste of the spotlight, but will remain cautious of limiting the hype around his sky-high potential.

What’s been said about him?

United have been eager to keep his potential under wraps, but his personal trainer, Alfie Brooks, has shed light on his ability.

He told the Mail: “When he first started training, [his competitiveness] was the standout attribute.

“I’ve coached nearly 1,000 academy players over my time—four of them in Josh Nichols (Arsenal), Josh Acheampong (Chelsea), Sydie Peck (Sheffield United) and Tyrique George (Chelsea) have made their senior debuts—and JJ is the best I’ve ever seen.

“He could go into a Premier League changing room right now and technically he would be better than all of them. It wouldn’t even be close.”
