Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been called 'Mourinho 2.0' warning

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is keen on signing Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande – who reportedly favours a move to Old Trafford over local rivals Man City.

Amorim is preparing for his first match in charge after making the switch from Sporting to replace Erik ten Hag.

Several Sporting players – including Viktor Gyokereshave been linked with a move to Old Trafford to reunite with Amorim.

Sky journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims Amorim has held talks with Ivory Coast defender Diomande about a switch in the summer of 2025.

Amorim has previously stated he will not raid Sporting for new signings in the January window, though a move after the season remains possible.

Ousmane Diomande Keen On Joining Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

Manchester United are aiming ‘not to fall behind’ in the race to sign Ousmane Diomande amid interest from Man City.

Ruben Amorim would like to sign the 20-year-old who made 69 appearances for him at Sporting.

Tavolieri claims that Diomande recognises that joining a coach he knows well would benefit his football development going forward.

Diomande is said to be a ‘priority signing’ for Man City, despite being behind Manchester United in the race.

The youngster though has three years left on his Sporting deal.

Who Is Manchester United Target Ousmane Diomande?

Ruben Amorim’s former player is a product of the academy of Ivorian club Olympic Sport Abobo, and signed for Danish side Midtjylland in 2020.

After a brief loan spell at second-tier Portuguese side Mafra, he joined Sporting during the January window of 2023.

Diomande is described as an ‘absolute freak in possession’ after playing a key role in Sporting’s title win last season.

He made the Primeira Liga Team of the Year alongside Gyokeres and Goncalo Inacio – both linked with Manchester United.

Amorim will likely carry over his favoured 3-4-3 formation which Diomande became accustomed to at Sporting.

So the 20-year-old could be a suitable signing for Ruben Amorim during the summer transfer window.
