Mason Greenwood appears eager to keep his England and World Cup hopes alive with his prolific form for Marseille this season.
Only seven players across the ‘top five’ European leagues have registered more goals and assists.
They include star-studded names such as Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, Igor Thiago and Lamine Yamal.
In 16 Ligue 1 matches, Greenwood has scored 11 goals and registered a further three assists.
He’s backed up those figures in cup clashes with a further seven goals and three assists in eight games across the Champions League and Coupe de France.
Mason Greenwood Impressive Form For Marseille
There’s no arguing that Greenwood’s form has made him one of Europe’s most productive forwards this season.
After scoring a hat-trick in Marseille’s cup thrashing against minnows Bayeux on Tuesday, French media labelled his performance as ‘dazzling’ while outlet Maxifoot gave him a 9.5/10 rating.
His numbers don’t appear to be going unnoticed in Europe, with Spanish publication Fichajes suggesting Atletico Madrid could be interested in pursuing a deal this summer.
It comes after they allowed Conor Gallagher to join Tottenham on a five-and-a-half-year deal.
His goal contributions this season also come on the back of an impressive 2024/25 campaign, where he registered 21 goals and six assists in 34 matches – bettering the numbers of Haaland.

Will Mason Greenwood Play For England Again?
Greenwood’s controversial past means it is highly unlikely that he will play for the Three Lions again.
He was arrested and subsequently suspended by Manchester United “until further notice” four years ago, while sponsors like Nike also suspended their relationships with him.
After several months on bail, he was officially charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Those charges were later dropped in February 2023, with The Crown Prosecution Service stating that a “combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light” meant there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”
Following the legal case, Manchester United conducted their own private inquiry.
They concluded that while they believed Greenwood “did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged,” it was mutually agreed that he should continue his career elsewhere, where he went to Getafe on loan.
Adding to that, Greenwood’s only England cap came in September 2020 when he controversially broke Covid lockdown rules to invite two local women to the team hotel alongside Phil Foden in Iceland.
England boss Thomas Tuchel was asked about the possibility of recalling Greenwood, who hasn’t played for his country since 2020, during their World Cup qualifiers.
He responded rather bluntly: “I have not spoken to him until now. I have not spoken to him or his camp. My understanding was that he tried to play for Jamaica, so we didn’t give it another thought.
“He was not in the mix at the moment, and he is not in our thoughts for our team. I don’t rule anything out, but he is no priority at the moment.”
Tuchel also has a wealth of options in attacking positions, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen and Foden all vying for a starting role.
Can Mason Greenwood Play For Jamaica?
It does appear as though Greenwood may be aiming to keep his England international hopes alive for now.
Greenwood was officially granted Jamaican citizenship and a passport in August 2025 and is eligible to play for the ‘Reggae Boyz’ because his only England cap came in a non-competitive fixture.
However, Greenwood must sign a formal letter to FIFA confirming a permanent “change of association.” Reports from late 2025 suggest he has been hesitant to sign this, as it would permanently end any possibility of playing for England.
