Many Crystal Palace fans would have seen their star striker Jean-Philippe Mateta strutting around Wembley with a selfie-stick and GoPro camera after their famous FA Cup win over Man City – but there was good reason for it as the Frenchman was pulling together exclusive ‘Mateta’s World’ footage for the CPFC YouTube channel – giving unseen coverage of all the Eagles celebrations.
Mateta Marked His 150th Palace Appearance With a Famous FA Cup Win
Jean-Philippe Mateta certainly played his part in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup winning run – despite not scoring in the competition.
Mateta featured in five FA Cup games for the Eagles and was most famously at the wrong end of the terrible red card tackle by Millwall’s keeper Liam Roberts in their 3-1 home win back in March.
Since that Fifth Round challenge, Mateta has worn an ear guard when playing, having needed stitches to repair his left lob – but that didn’t stop the Frenchman starting in the FA Cup Final.
Which was also his landmark 150th appearance for Crystal Palace football club.
He lasted till the 78th minute before being replaced by former Arsenal man Eddie Nketiah, who was ended up winning his second FA Cup winners’ medal having bagged one in 2020 with the Gunners.
Jean-Philippe Mateta Turned From Striker To Amateur Film Producer
However, it was after the final whistle was blown that Mateta turned from footballer to amateur film producer – armed with a selfie stick attached to a GoPro camera he spent the next hour getting unique ‘on the pitch’ footage that the likes of BBC and ITV would have been proud of.
Including close up shots of the team walking up the famous Wembley step to get their medals and clever 360-degree angle shots of the stadium.
Mateta has now edited and posted the coverage on the official Crystal Palace FC YouTube Channel. You can watch the edited 25 minutes coverage below.
This is now leading Palace fans to wonder if budding filming expert Mateta will be doing the same at the Crystal Palace FA Cup parade on May 26th and also at their 2025 Community Shield clash with Liverpool on August 9th.
Having lost out in the 1990 and 2016 FA Cup Finals to Manchester United it was third time lucky for the Eagles. Winning their first major trophy in their 164-year history.
