One of the most beloved football pundits, Micah Richards, has tipped Liverpool to defend their title in his interesting set of Premier League predictions. 

Alongside fellow footballers-turned-pundits, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, Richards also filled the Champions League spots and named clubs most likely to be relegated.

Micah Richards Makes Interesting Premier League Predictions

On The Rest is Football podcast, Micah Richards, Alan Shearer, and Gary Lineker went through team by team, predicting their fate. All three were in agreement that Liverpool were the team to beat in the Premier League title race.

Micah Richards Predicts Liverpool Will Win Second-Consecutive Premier League Title

When asked to name the Premier League winner, Micah Richards replied:

“I have to go with Liverpool.”

The former Manchester City defender then heaped praise on Florian Wirtz, saying he was just the player Liverpool needed.

“Bringing in [Florian] Wirtz, people don’t understand how good this player is,” Richards added.

“I think he’s exactly what they needed. Wirtz can dictate the play in tight areas. If you watch him around the box, it’s little one-touch, two-touch passes, cute passes around the corner. I just think they’re going to be unstoppable at times.”

Liverpool are the 19/10 favourites with UK betting sites to win the Premier League ahead of Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

Micah Richards Gives Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea Champions League Spots in Premier League Predictions

Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea secured Champions League football through the Premier League in 2024/25. Micah Richards agreed with Gary Lineker’s Premier League predictions and backed the three clubs to finish in the UCL spots once again.

Arsenal

Micah Richards believes Viktor Gyokeres is an essential upgrade over Kai Havertz. But he fears that an injury or two would derail Arsenal’s campaign.

“Bringing in [Viktor] Gyokeres is massive for Arsenal and not just because he’s a big-name forward. Because of his movement that we talk about [inside the box]. 

“I still don’t know if it’s enough to get them over the line. I think one or two injuries and they’re back to the same as last season. So, I’m going to say challenging, but not champions.”

Chelsea

Micah Richards called Chelsea a good team, but did not peg them to win the title due to their relatively weaker defence. He still backed them to challenge Liverpool, suggesting a Champions League was on the cards.

“Chelsea are a good team now,” began Richards.

“It’s just, I look at the other teams around them, I think they’re better defensively, and I think that’s the only thing that’s going to stop them from going and winning it.”

Manchester City

Micah Richards, who played 245 games for Manchester City, said Rodri’s injury would keep them from winning the title. The Spaniard, who suffered an ACL tear last summer, is currently recovering from a groin issue. Pep Guardiola will not deploy him until he is fully fit, which may only be after the September international break.

Richards fears Man City will suffer in transitions without the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner. As a result, they may have to settle for a Champions League place.

“I think if Rodri was fit, I would say it would be a race to the end. I just think losing Rodri is massive. 

“I just think that protection on the transition that we constantly talk about, Rodri was the master at that.”

He continued:

“The balance of the whole team is better when Rodri’s in there. But he’s going to miss the start of the season. So I mean, to claw back them points against Liverpool, who have just got so many options, I think it’s going to be difficult.”

Micah Richards Predicts Burnley, Sunderland, and Wolverhampton Wanderers Could Be Relegated

Burnley, Leeds United, and Sunderland have earned their promotion from the Championship. Going against Alan Shearer’s Premier League predictions, Micah Richards backed Leeds United to survive the drop.

Micah Richards Believes Sunderland Will Return to Championship

Sunderland, however, did not get the backing of Micah Richards. The former British defender said the Black Cats would struggle to get so many new players to gel together.

“Relegated only because they’re bringing in so many players in such a short period of time to get them to gel and know exactly what they’re doing.

“I think they’ve had a right go, fair play to them. But yeah, I think it might just be too much for them. So I’ve got them going down, unfortunately.”

Burnley

On Burnley, Micah Richards initially said:

“I think they’re staying up purely based on their defensive structure.

“I think just because they can bank up, and I think teams are finding it a lot harder now to break teams down and getting caught on the counterattack.”

Burnley only conceded 16 goals in the Championship last season, emerging as the most economical team in the division by far.

When pressed to name three clubs that could drop to the Championship, Richards added Burnley’s name to the dreaded list.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Micah Richards did not confidently keep Wolverhampton Wanderers in the drop zone. Initially, he only picked them to be in the relegation battle.

“I really like the manager and how confident he is and what he says,” added Richards.

“I don’t know if the players are good enough to do what he wants to do. But I think the struggle, I think it’s going to be a relegation battle for Wolves this year.“

When pressed to keep three teams in the relegation column, he reluctantly added:

“Burnley, I worry about a little bit going forward, not defensively. Wolves, I worry about and Sunderland. Those are my three that I worry about the most this season.”

Out of the three, Wolves easily have the toughest opening fixture. They kick off the 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a clash against Manchester City on Saturday.
