Tottenham will need to start better than they have done so far this season if they want to beat AS Monaco in the Champions League tonight.
As Tottenham prepare for a challenging European away day, the data suggests they cannot afford to start slowly when they travel to Monaco on Wednesday.
Spurs have made a solid start to the season under new boss Thomas Frank.
Tottenham announced Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s successor after the Europa League-winning boss was sacked over the summer, and things have looked good thus far.
With four wins, two draws, and two defeats in the Premier League, they sit sixth after eight games.
They dispatched League One Doncaster Rovers 3-0 in the League Cup, and are unbeaten after their opening two Champions League fixtures.
But they have taken a while to get going in many of those matches, something they will not be able to do if they want to avoid defeat in Monaco.

Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are seventh in the French top flight, but only four points below league leaders Marseille.
They have won four of their opening eight league games.
But worryingly for Tottenham, Monaco have won every game they’ve played bar one this season when scoring first.
Already this campaign, Spurs have struggled early on in matches.
Against Brighton, they went 2-0 down before rescuing a draw with a second-half fightback.
They lost at Bournemouth after conceding an early goal and failing to break down the Cherries’ defence.
It took a stoppage-time equaliser for them to draw against Wolves after conceding first.
And they left it late again to draw 2-2 with Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League, having gone two goals behind.

AS Monaco Stats
Tottenham may have developed a habit of finishing games strongly, but the stats suggest that won’t be enough against Monaco.
The Ligue 1 side have are unbeaten at home this season, and have never lost when scoring first this campaign.
Monaco have scored 17 league goals in just eight games, more than PSG and fewer than only leaders Marseille.
Spurs, meanwhile, are yet to win a game this season when conceding the opening goal (D3, L1).
With Monaco’s imperious home form and proven ability to hold on to a lead, an early goal for the hosts would be a disaster for Tottenham.
Top-scorer Ansu Fati has six goals in just six appearances, and the Barcelona academy graduate has tonnes of top European experience already at 22 years old.
Shutting him down will be crucial for Spurs if they want to avoid defeat in the Principality.

Tottenham’s trip to AS Monaco will take place on Wednesday, 22 October at the Stade Louis II.
The game will kick off at 20:00 UK time, and will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 3, with coverage starting at 7:00pm.
