Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Röhl Emerging As A Live Contender To Be The Next Southampton Manager
The man at the top of the next Southampton manager market is Danny Röhl, who is currently in charge at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday are the first club that the former defender has taken charge of, but he has impressed many since he became the youngest manager in the English Football League aged just 34.
Röhl spent his playing career in the German lower leagues at sides like FSV Zwickau and FC Eilenburg, but is shaping up to be a better manager and one that Southampton could now turn to.
Röhl is the 5/6 favourite to be the next Southampton manager.
Liam Rosenior Under Consideration As Next Southampton Manager
Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior is getting rave reviews for his management after making a flying start to life at the North-eastern French club.
The former Hull City player and manager has quickly put behind him the disappointment of being relieved of his duties by the Tigers last summer. Many pundits felt his sacking was very harsh, so it’s not a surprise that he is going so well in Ligue Un.
It is rumoured that the Saints hierarchy are big admirers of Rosenior, therefore the best betting sites in the UK have him near the head of the market.
Other Next Southampton Manager Contenders Include Liam Manning, Gary O’Neil, Sean Dyche and Chris Davies
According to the best betting sites in the UK, one man being mooted as the next Southampton manager is Bristol City boss Liam Manning.
Manning was snapped up by Bristol City from Oxford in November 2023. Before that, he worked at West Ham’s academy, where he played a significant role in nurturing young talent. Notably, he is said to have been involved in the development of Arsenal and England midfielder Declan Rice.
Gary O’Neil was sacked by Wolves this season in a move many neutral observers considered to be a harsh one, and as a result you can see why he might be a popular option for anyone looking for a new boss. O’Neil’s time at Southampton’s fiercest rivals Portsmouth could be the main stumbling block to his chances of landing the gig.
Sean Dyche is also prominent in a lot of the ‘next manager markets’ after getting sacked by Everton in early January. The former Burnley boss will be an attractive option for some clubs now he’s a free agent and is 10/1 to take over at Southampton.
Birmingham boss Chris Davies is enjoying life in his first senior management role as he has already led the Blues to promotion and they will surely wrap up the League One title. Davies was previously assistant manager to Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou and current Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester.
Davies could be a wildcard in the market at 12/1.
Commentary: sportscasting.com/uk spokesman Andy Newton reacted to our ‘Southampton Manager Odds’ saying:
“Ivan Jurić wasn’t able to turn round Southampton’s fortunes and now relegation has been confirmed, they have chosen to part ways.
“Danny Röhl is doing a very good job at Sheffield Wednesday and you could understand if Southampton made a move for him.
“Liam Rosenior has been rebuilding his reputation on the continent and is reported to be of interest to both Southampton and Leicester.
“Ex Portsmouth player Gary O’Neil has recently emerged as a contender for the Saints role. This could potentially be a contentious one for the fanbase given the famous south coast rivalry.”
