Nottingham Forest Vs Man City Highlights
Nottingham Forest’s UEFA Champions League hopes were given a huge boost as Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the only goal of the game against Man City.
The Tricky Trees closed the gap on second-place Arsenal and moved four points above the Cityzens in the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s men currently occupy the last UCL spot.
As it stands, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are now two points behind the Gunners. The North Londoners are back in action on Sunday when they take on Man United.
Interestingly, Forest’s 1-0 win was their first in England’s elite since their 7-0 mauling against Brighton. After that, the Reds lost to Fulham and Newcastle before drawing 0-0 against Mikel Arteta’s side.
The game itself appeared to be heading for a stalemate as the third vs fourth clash failed to sparkle. Star strikers Chris Wood and Erling Haaland were largely anonymous at the City Ground.
The faltering champions bossed possession but struggled to make too many clear-cut chances. Winter addition Nico Gonzalez came closest in the first-half when he hit the post.
Into the second period, Forest began to grow in confidence and Hudson-Odoi almost opened the scoring. His rasping effort was brilliantly saved by Ederson before he finally went one better and beat the Brazilian.
With just seven minutes to go, Morgan Gibbs-White hit a beautiful cross-field ball to the former Chelsea man. Hudson-Odoi bared down on goal, went down the outside of his man and fired past Ederson at his near post.
The City goalkeeper perhaps should have done a lot better as he failed to react quick enough to the shot. Forest defended superbly and rightfully celebrated their fin win at the full-time whistle.
As for City, their Champions League hopes have taken a huge blow. Pep Guardiola’s side will fall down to fifth if Chelsea beat relegation-threatened Leicester on Sunday afternoon.
