Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been pictured back in Cheshire amid reports linking him with the vacant Manchester United managerial role.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘Strong Contender’ for Manchester United Job
The Daily Mail report that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has emerged as a ‘strong contender’ to take over as Manchester United head coach in an interim capacity until the end of the 2025-26 season.
It comes as the Norwegian was spotted shopping at Waitrose in Wilmslow, Cheshire, close to the house he owns in the area. He lived in the area during his previous stint as manager.
Solskjaer was first appointed as Red Devils boss as a temporary replacement for Jose Mourinho in December 2018, but after a successful start, he was handed the job on a permanent basis.
He lasted three years in the role before being dismissed in November 2021.
Since then, the Norwegian enjoyed a seven-month spell as the head coach of Besiktas in Turkey.
The 52-year-old reportedly features highly on United’s shortlist of potential appointments to take over until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim’s departure on Monday morning.
Amorim was sacked off the back of a poor run of results, most recently drawing 1-1 with Leeds.
At the time of his dismissal, he was the favourite in the Premier League sack race odds market.

Darren Fletcher has taken over the team for the time being, with Jonny Evans supporting as one of his assistants. Their first outing will be away at Turf Moor against Burnley on Wednesday.
According to The Daily Mail‘s report, several other candidates are also being considered for the role, including another former interim head coach and club legend in Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Solskjaer is priced at Evens and Van Nistelrooy is at 12/1 in the next Manchester United manager odds market.

Oliver Glasner Among Favourites for Manchester United Job
The current second favourite for the vacant Old Trafford role is Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.
He is at 4/1 in our betting odds market, followed by ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
Maresca was dismissed by the Blues on New Year’s Day after a dramatic breakdown in his working relationship with senior figures at the Stamford Bridge club, according to reports.
Priced at 7/1, insiders believe he could reunite with Manchester United chiefs Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada. He previously worked alongside the pair during his spell with Manchester City.
Unai Emery, Laurent Blanc, Andoni Iraola and Gareth Southgate also feature highly in the market.
Additionally, former Red Devils star Michael Carrick is being linked with the vacant role.
The 44-year-old is priced at 5/1 to take over at Old Trafford, having been out of work since being sacked from his role with Championship side Middlesbrough at the end of last season.
United may have to act fast if they want to acquire Carrick’s services, however, as he is currently the favourite to take over from Ryan Mason in the next West Brom manager odds market.
He is also in the running to replace Nuno Espirito Santo in the next West Ham manager market.
