We look at the Open de Espana prize money ahead of this week’s big DP World Tour event in Madrid – where homebred Jon Rahm will be looking for his fourth win in the tournament. Open de Espana Prize Money Purse Stands at $3.25m in 2024 The players at this week’s Open de Espana golf event on the DP World Tour will be playing for a share of a $3.25m purse – with the winning player banking $552,500 of that. Despite this being around $1m less than last weekend’s BMW PGA Championship prize for the winner, the 2024 tournament has still attracted a top field – headed by three time champion Jon Rahm. This Open de Espana prize money total is also up significantly from past years, when the 2022 purse stood at $1.75m and the winner getting $297,500, while between 2018 and 2021 it stood at $1.5m and the winners’ share being $250,000. Meaning if Jon Rahm, who has finished the 2024 LIV Golf season, can win the event played in his home country again he’ll be winning almost twice as much as he’s done in past years. Rahm is also expected to play in the Dunhill Links Championship and the Andalucia Masters next month – with these three starts, along with his Olympic appearance in the summer, enough to keep his tour membership and also mean he’ll still be on Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup radar. The best golf betting sites in the UK, are also taking no chances on Rahm – making him the clear favourite to win the event for a fourth time. Just behind Rahm in the market is Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Shane Lowry. This trio are yet to win the event, with the last English winner James Morrison in 2015 and 2016. If Rahm can land the odds, he’ll overtake fellow Spainard Seve Ballesteros, who also won the event three times. While this century the event has produced more home-grown winners when Sergio Garcia (2002), Alvaro Quiros (2010), Miguel Angel Jimenez (2014) and Rafa Cabera-Bello (2021) took the spoils. Five of the last eight Open de Espana tournaments have been won by a Spanish player. Rahm also still holds the tournament record when shooting -25 in 2022 to take the title – beating Frenchman Matthieu Pavon by six strokes. The 2023 Open de Espana Was Won By Matthieu Pavon French world ranked number 26th Matthieu Pavon won last year’s Open de Espana (2023) and will be back for more in 2024 too. 12 months ago, Pavon, who was also runner-up in 2022, defeated South African Zander Lombard by four strokes with an overall score of -23. Matthieu also collected $552,500 in Open de Espana prize money, with the figure the same as this year in 2024.
