Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Months After Leading X-Rated Chris Wilder Chant

Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United just months after leading an x-rated chant aimed at the Blades’ current manager Chris Wilder.

Sheffield United have completed the signing of former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.

The 32-year-old departed Elland Road by mutual consent in late August after Daniel Farke announced that he wasn’t part of his plans for the upcoming season.

Remaining in Yorkshire, he has penned a short term deal at Bramall Lane until January.

He had also been linked with moves to Championship leaders Coventry, Wrexham and Celtic.

Awkwardly, his move comes just months after Bamford led an x-rated, abusive chant aimed at current Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

Following Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season, the forward was caught on camera singing ‘du du du du, Wilder is a w****r’.

Bamford cooled tensions by giving Wilder a phone call in the aftermath of the video going viral.

Wilder said: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with it.

“I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro, but I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel [Farke] as well yesterday and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a top guy.

“They are a top team and a top football club and like I said I’m a big boy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning.

“I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

The Blades currently sit in 22nd place in the Championship table, three points adrift of safety.

They are winless in four straight matches, and have managed just two wins in their last eight.

It’s a return that sees Wilder sit in third favourite in the Championship sack race betting odds.

Additionally, they have scored just 11 goals in the league thus far this term – the fewest of any of the 24 sides that ply their trade in the English second tier.

Wilder will be hoping that Bamford will have an immediate impact in turning that record around.
