Preston vs Aston Villa FA Cup Preview, Prediction, Team News and Confirmed Lineups
Preston welcome Aston Villa in the FA Cup quarter final and you can find our full preview, prediction, team news and confirmed lineups below.
Preston vs Aston Villa Preview
The hosts are preparing for their biggest game in recent history, as they look to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1963/64.
Preston’s run in the FA Cup has been full of drama, edging past Charlton 2-1 before going on to beat Wycombe on penalties and then earning a surprising 3-0 victory over Burnley.
Their form since that cup victory has not been as convincing, winning just one of their last four but a recent 2-1 win over Portsmouth ended a run of three matches without a win.
As for Aston Villa, their cup story has been very impressive as the Villains have beaten two Premier League outfits in Tottenham and West Ham before earning a place in the quarter finals with a victory over Cardiff.
Unai Emery’s side come into this match as heavy favourites and are on a superb run of form, winning their last four across all competitions and conceding just one goal in the process.
Interestingly, these sides met five times between 2017 to 2018 and four of these meetings ended in a stalemate, while Villa won the other encounter 2-0.
Preston vs Aston Villa Team News
Preston will not be able to call upon reliable midfielder, Brad Potts, after the Englishman suffered a hamstring injury and is set to miss the next few weeks.
The hosts have a fairly full squad otherwise, with Milutin Osmajic back for this FA Cup clash after missing Preston’s last three matches through injury.
As for Aston Villa, Ollie Watkins returns to the bench after the English international sat out of the recent break through injury.
However, Unai Emery may be slightly cautious over playing the former Preston player as Villa look to avoid any injuries before their trip to Paris on April 9th.
The Villains will travel to Preston with an almost full squad, however, Ross Barkley is set to miss out with a calf injury.
