Progeny of the sire Night Of Thunder have a fine record when racing on the Flat on good to softer or softer going (based on race times not the official going), landing 101 of their 541 starts (18.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £77.03 to a £1 level stake (expected winners = 84.34, A/E = 1.20). WHISKEY PETE, a soft ground winner at York last autumn, has drawn a blank in five starts since gelded but showed more when runner-up at Ascot last time and can go one better.

ALLMANKIND (system – James Owen, stable switchers)

In-form James Owen has a solid record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other handlers, scoring with 17 of the 73 qualifiers (234%) for a profit of £7.29 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 12.16, A/E = 1.40). ALLMANKIND, the outsider of the field in this Class 2 handicap hurdle, has been off the track for over 600 days but could be worth chancing on his first start since leaving Dan Skelton’s.

 

CHELMSFORD 4.50

MEHMASSELF AND I (system – Mehmas, Polytrack nurseries)

Progeny of the sire Mehmas are 16 from 72 in nursery company on Polytrack for a profit of £103.46 to a £1 level stake at SP, against an expected winners score of 9.21 (A/E= 1.74). MEHMMASELF AND I ran a respectable fourth at Kempton on his recent handicap debut and this track might suit better.
