DONCASTER 3.15

ELIM was on my shortlist for this 7f Group 3 contest after her eyecatcher from a tricky draw in the 7f fillies’ handicap at York, but she’s been punted from 8-1 into 7-2 overnight and it’s safe to say that any value has long since departed. The better choice at the current prices could be Ralph Beckett’s QUEEN OF MOUGINS, who also endured a wide trip when a short-headed second of 17 in the same York contest as Elim. That was a huge effort from stall 17 (Elim was in stall 9, once adjusted for the non-runner) and she remains open to improvement on only her second start at the trip. She was ridden patiently at York but know her connections now that she stays, I’m hoping that Hector Crouch reverts to more prominent tactics, as there’s no obvious pacesetter on today’s race. Buy at 13 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price (5-1 at the time of writing).

Recommendation: Back QUEEN OF MOUGINS in Doncaster 3.15

 

DONCASTER 4.50

It remains difficult to win from the front on the round course at Doncaster and likely pace angle LIBERTY COACH could struggle to back-up last month’s course and distance win when he held on by a neck in an apprentice handicap run at a crawl. Persian Phoenix, the narrow runner-up, was never far away that day and he could only finish fifth of seven on his next outing. The prominently-ridden fourth, Roman Secret, was beaten when 11-8 favourite at Wolverhampton on her next start and the John & Sean Quinn-trained three-yea-old will find it much harder to dominate in today’s 16-runner line-up. Sell at 11 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market.
