NEC Nijmegen have identified Rangers striker Danilo as their top January transfer target.
The former Feyenoord striker arrived at Ibrox for £6million in 2023 but looks set for a return to Holland.
He is reportedly one of several players Rangers are willing to offload this month.
With NEC flying high in fourth place in the Eredivisie, the Dutch side is eager to bring in a proven goalscorer with extensive experience in the Netherlands.
Eredivisie Return Beckons for Injury-Hit Star
Danilo is no stranger to Dutch football, having enjoyed successful spells at Ajax, FC Twente, and Feyenoord before his move to Scotland.
His intimate knowledge of the league makes him a low-risk, high-reward option for NEC manager Dick Schreuder.
The Nijmegen club is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements following the sale of Kento Shiogai to Wolfsburg and an injury to Youssef El Kachati.
Currently, Koki Ogawa remains the club’s only fit senior striker, making the acquisition of a proven finisher like Danilo a priority before the transfer window closes.
Tough Times at Ibrox Under Danny Rohl
Despite arriving with high expectations, Danilo’s time in Scotland has been marred by serious injuries, including a severe knee problem that ended his debut campaign prematurely.
Under current Rangers boss Danny Rohl, the Brazilian has struggled to reclaim a consistent starting spot.
Although he has managed 28 appearances across all competitions this season, a return of just four goals has seen him fall down the pecking order behind Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti.
Reports suggest Rohl is keen to reduce the club’s wage bill to fund his own January targets, with Danilo and midfielder Nedim Bajrami among those made available for transfer.
Danilo Move: Loan or Permanent?
While Rangers would ideally like to recoup a significant portion of the fee paid to Feyenoord, a loan deal with an option to buy may be the most realistic path for NEC.
The Brazilian still has a contract at Ibrox until 2028, but the lure of guaranteed first-team football in a league where he has previously thrived could prove decisive.
Danilo’s goal-scoring record in the Eredivisie is impressive, particularly his 17-goal haul during a loan spell at FC Twente.
