Real Madrid want to overhaul their defence next summer, and signing a centre-back is seen as a priority.
Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger have struggled with fitness issues. David Alaba has lost his agility after long injury layoffs and is not in Xabi Alonso’s plans. Meanwhile, Raul Asencio has failed to cement a starting role due to a lack of consistency.
Additionally, Rudiger and Alaba, alongside captain Dani Carvajal, are coming to the end of their contracts and are also likely to leave.
That makes Dean Huijsen, who joined from Bournemouth in June, the only centre-back nailed on to continue at Real Madrid.

Unsurprisingly, Los Blancos have been linked with several centre-backs, with Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, and Palace’s Marc Guehi mentioned most frequently.
Madrid withdrew interest in Konate, and Upamecano looks set to continue at Bayern Munich, making Guehi the obvious target.
Owing to his free agent status, the Crystal Palace star has drawn plenty of interest from European clubs.
Alongside Liverpool, who came close to signing him on deadline day, PSG and Barcelona are also rumoured to be keeping tabs on the player.
However, in a bid to beat the competition, Real Madrid have made early enquiries about Guehi. They are prepared to offer the England international a lucrative package to seal the transfer.
Marc Guehi Fits The Madrid Blueprint
In recent years, Real Madrid have revised their approach to transfers. Instead of only paying astronomical fees for players, they have diversified, also targeting talented youngsters and experienced free agents.
Their new strategy has worked wonders. The club has managed to attract highly rated youngsters like Franco Mastantuono and Dean Huijsen, while also signing superstars like Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold for free.
With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba leaving next summer, Xabi Alonso’s side need experience at the heart of their defence. And Marc Guehi fits the profile perfectly.
The 25-year-old is nearing the peak of his powers and can lead the defence for the foreseeable future.
He is excellent on the ball, which makes him a tactical fit for Alonso’s system at Real Madrid.
And finally, he has proven his quality in arguably the toughest league in the world. He has played 144 Premier League matches, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.
With so many teams in the running, Guehi’s Real Madrid transfer is not a certainty. However, owing to their European history and global appeal, Los Blancos can fancy their chances of signing the Palace captain.
