Five Real Madrid players are reportedly facing uncertain futures, as new coach Xabi Alonso plans a summer overhaul.
Alonso replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the helm just before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He has since overseen four wins and a draw.
His arrival has shaken things up at the Santiago Bernabeu. While some players have seen their stock rise, others have lost their place in the team, inching towards a summer exit.
Five Real Madrid Players Facing Uncertain Futures Under Xabi Alonso
According to Spanish outlet Diario SPORT, Xabi Alonso has shuffled the pack at Real Madrid. As a result, five players, who had a fixed role in the squad, face uncertain futures under the Spaniard.
As per the aforementioned report, Rodrygo, Dani Ceballos, Ferland Mendy, David Alaba, and Endrick are the names affected by the change in the dugout. Los Blancos are reportedly open to selling Rodrygo, Ceballos, and Mendy for the right price this summer.
Rodrygo
One of the most highly rated forwards in the game, Rodrygo, has lost his place under Alonso. While Vinicius Junior has started every match, Rodrygo has only made the starting XI once — in the opening-day draw with Al Hilal. So far, he has played just 30 Club World Cup games, clocking 92 minutes of football.
Premier League giants Arsenal have been tipped to sign Rodrygo this summer. The Whites reportedly want around €90 million for the Brazil international.

Dani Ceballos
Central midfielder Dani Ceballos did not play all that frequently under Carlo Ancelotti, but he still had job security. With Alonso handing a starting role to Arda Guler, Ceballos has become surplus to requirements.
Real Madrid, however, will not force Ceballos out of the team. They are prepared to honour his contract until June 30, 2027.
Ferland Mendy
Between injuries and unconvincing performances, Ferland Mendy was already struggling to justify his place in the team. In Xabi Alonso’s system, which demands a lot of attacking impetus from full-backs, he is likely to find it even tougher.
Fran Garcia has become a leading contender to man the left flank under Alonso. Additionally, Madrid are still pushing for Alvaro Carreras after failing to sign him before the Club World Cup. If the deal goes through, Mendy could soon find himself even lower down the pecking order.
David Alaba and Endrick Affected, But Not on the Chopping Block
David Alaba, who played a starring role as Los Blancos won the Champions League in 2021-22, has struggled to keep himself fit. Last season, he suffered an ACL tear and played just 14 games in all competitions.
Towards the end of the regular season, Alaba suffered a serious meniscus injury and could not make the Club World Cup squad. His Real Madrid contract expires in June 2026, but he may struggle to win his place back after suffering so many injuries.

Endrick, meanwhile, struggled for minutes under Carlo Ancelotti. So, a managerial change should have helped him. However, with Gonzalo Garcia breaking onto the scene, Endrick could continue to starve for minutes. Real Madrid could loan him out to a Champions League-playing club to give him the exposure he needs.
