Referee Karate Kick

Watch the incredible moment that a Copa Peru clash descended into chaos after the match referee karate kicked a furious member of the losing team’s coaching staff.

A Copa Peru clash between Sport Huaquilla and Magdalena CEDEC in Ancash came close to ending in a brawl after the match referee, Luis Alegre, launched a karate kick at a member of the losing team’s coaching staff.

The incident, which occurred in the 82nd minute, looked to come in the form of self-defence.

As seen in the video, the coach invaded the pitch clutching what looked to be a plastic water bottle and made a beeline towards the match referee after the official had brandished a red card.

Alegre is then seen kicking the coach in the neck/face area, sending him to the ground, before police intervened.

Furious players surrounded the referee and his accompanying linesmen, but thankfully, the police gained control of the situation before letting it escalate any further.

The man that received the Shawn Michaels-style kick got back up on his feet moments after the melee but was convinced by members of the Magdalena CEDEC playing squad to walk away, perhaps for his own good.

As the incident unfolded, the match commentators could be heard saying: “Calm down lads, calm down.”

They continued by adding: “This sort of thing can’t happen.”

Unsurprisingly, the game was suspended following the commotion.
