Sergio Reguilon Transfer News

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon could make a surprise return to La Liga, but the move may not please Real Madrid fans.

According to SportsCasting’s sources, Los Blancos’ arch-rivals Atletico Madrid want to strengthen their squad after a poor start to the season. They are interested in bolstering their defence, and Reguilon has emerged as a transfer target.

Spain is not one of the countries where the transfer window is still open. But since the Spaniard is a free agent, Atletico Madrid can sign and register him outside of the traditional transfer window.

Atletico Madrid Searching for First Win in LaLiga

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have endured a rough start to the 2025/26 LaLiga season. They have yet to register a win in LaLiga, losing one match and drawing two. With just two points on the board after three Matchdays, they find themselves in 17th place in the Spanish top-flight rankings.

Their arch rivals Real Madrid, meanwhile, have been absolutely flying. They have climbed to the top of the rankings with three consecutive victories. Real Madrid are 11/10 with football betting sites to win LaLiga this season.

Atletico Madrid did not make many moves in the summer transfer window. But due to their poor form, they are taking a look at possible reinforcements.

Atletico Eyeing Sergio Reguilon Transfer

Atletico Madrid have two first-team left-backs in their ranks, Javi Galan and David Hancko. Hancko has been the left-back of choice for Diego Simeone, with Matteo Ruggeri providing cover. Galan, who has seemingly lost his place in the team, has only played for 15 minutes across three games in LaLiga.

Diego Simeone wants the club to bring an attack-minded left-back, and Sergio Reguilon is an appealing option. The Real Madrid academy graduate makes smart overlapping runs, is a good crosser of the ball, and is solid at the back.

Reguilon spent the 2022/23 season at the club on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, so he should not have trouble settling in. Additionally, Reguilon played his best football when he played for Sevilla in LaLiga. A return to the country could help him rediscover his best form.

Atletico are prepared to offer the 28-year-old a one-year deal with the option of another year. They are a wary of his fitness record and want to assess him thoroughly before giving him a longer contract. It is to be noted that Reguilon spent the majority of the 2022/23 campaign on the sidelines. She played just 11 games across competitions for Atletico, failing to score or assist.

At Tottenham, meanwhile, he played 72 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing nine assists.
