Sheffield United vs Cardiff FA Cup Preview, Prediction, Team News And Confirmed Lineups

Sheffield United welcome Cardiff in the FA Cup and you can find our preview, prediction, team news and confirmed lineups below.

Sheffield United vs Cardiff Preview

Sheffield United have enjoyed a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign, sitting third in the Championship and just a point behind table-topping Leeds.

Chris Wilder’s men are coming off a 2-1 win away at Watford which was much needed as it ended a run of three matches without a win.

This is their first FA Cup match of the season, with the competition bringing a lot of joy in recent year after reaching the semi-finals in 2022/23.

The Blades have won the FA Cup four times (1924/25, 1914/15, 1901/02 & 1898/99), which is three more times than Cardiff who have won the competition once in 1926/27.

Speaking of Cardiff, their 2024/25 campaign has been extremely underwhelming so far, sitting in the relegation zone at 23rd.

Omer Riza’s side have won just five out of their 25 league matches so far, scoring 25 and conceding 40 – which is one of the worst returns in the league.

These two sides have already met this season, as Sheffield United won 2-0 away from home on December 21st thanks to a brace from Kieffer Moore.

Sheffield United vs Cardiff Team News

The Blades have somewhat of an injury crisis, as Oliver Arblaster, Harry Souttar, Femi Seriki, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Vinicius Souza, Jamie Shackleton and Tyrese Campbell are all unavailable.

The midfield trio of Gustavo Hamer, Callum O’Hare and Tom Davies are also unlikely to feature, as Wilder claimed he took a massive risk by playing them against Watford.

Cardiff will not be able to call upon Isaak Davies, Michael Reindorf, Aaron Ramsey, David Turnbull and Ryotaro Tsunoda – who are all out through injury.

Another huge blow will be Callum Robinson, as Cardiff’s top goal scorer is not available due to suspension.

Sheffield United vs Cardiff Confirmed Lineups

Sheffield United: Davies; Gilchrist, Norrington-Davies, Baptiste, McCallum; Marsh, Blacker; Brooks, Burrows, Brewster; One

Cardiff: Horvath, Hpakio, Fish, Daland, Bagan, Ng, Ralls, Colwill, Tanner, Ashford, Etete

Sheffield United vs Cardiff Prediction

The Blades are heavy favourites on UK betting sites, which can be put down to their league position and already boasting a win over Cardiff this season.

With that in mind, we expect the hosts to earn a place in the next round and pick up a comfortable victory at Bramall Lane despite their long list of injuries.

Prediction: Sheffield United 2-0 Cardiff
