Wesley Sneijder has strongly criticised Victor Edvardsen after a video appeared to show the Go Ahead Eagles forward making a controversial gesture towards VfB Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller.
The video has gone viral on social media, sparking fan outrage.
Edvardsen Refuses to Apologise for Stiller Incident
Go Ahead Eagles substitute Victor Edvardsen and Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller were involved in a brief confrontation during their UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday night.
In the video, Edvardsen is seen pointing at his nose while making a gesture toward Stiller, prompting a scuffle involving both sets of players.
The referee intervened and booked both players following the incident.

After the game, which finished 4-0 in Stuttgart’s favour, Edvardsen was asked to comment on the incident.
While he acknowledged that adrenaline had got the better of him, he did not seem eager to apologise.
“I wanted to inject some extra energy into our team. Adrenaline got the better of me; I play with a lot of emotion. I haven’t apologised yet, and I don’t know if I will,” said the Swede (via Ziggo Sport).
“If I see him again, I could apologise. But emotion is part of football. It’s easy to say sorry, but he also said things you don’t know about. He could also apologise to me.”
Sneijder Strongly Criticises Edvardsen’s Behaviour
Dutch legend Wesley Sneijder was initially saddened by Victor Edvardsen’s behaviour.
He said:
“I think it’s sad. These kinds of gestures are very wrong.”
After watching the 29-year-old’s interview, the 2009/10 treble winner said Go Ahead Eagles should grab their player ‘by the ears’ and make him apologise.
Sneijder added:
“He [Edvard] wants to keep playing that tough guy. Just say, ‘I’ll be right on my way to the dressing room .’ You’re a role model for kids, too. This is just bullying. I think this is terrible.
“If he doesn’t even walk to the dressing room like that, then I think the club should grab him by the ears and take him to the dressing room. This is something the club really shouldn’t want.”
Go Ahead Eagles coach Melvin Boel did not take a firm stand against his player and said he did not see what happened.

Boel’s reaction left Sneijder fuming, with him strongly criticising the club’s casualness
The 2010 World Cup finalist said:
“He might not have seen the moment clearly. But such a moment comes out immediately after a match, and he should be aware of it.
“He says, ‘I don’t see anything,’ but he does. So don’t be afraid to say something about it. It frustrates me enormously.”
Sneijder continued:
“I know a lot of kids who have been bullied, and I hate that. I always intervene when I see it; I always did that at school.
“That you, as a coach, let it pass you by so easily… They should all be ashamed of themselves.“
