Most MOM’s around the world get a trophy or a bottle of bubbly – but Danish Superliga team Sønderjyske had a unique gift for their star player after a recent game – a wheelbarrow of spuds.
Sønderjyske Man Of The Match Maxime Soulas Wins 55kg Of Potatoes
Sønderjyske’s Maxime Soulas won’t have to worry if he’ll run out of potatoes for a while as the French defender walked away from their recent 3-2 win with a Man Of The Match award that consisted of 55kg of potatoes – courtesy of the match sponsors.
Sønderjyske saw off Nordsjælland 3-2 thanks to a 90+4 minute winner from Mohamed Cherif – which cancelled out the visitors 90th minute equaliser just moments before.
However, it was French defender Maxime Soulas (26) that opened the scoring for Sønderjyske – when netting in the 10th minute and with an eye-catching performance for the rest of the game landed the coveted Man Of The Match award at the end of the match too.
In the process, Soulas landed himself a wheelbarrow of potatoes – 55kg to be precise – thanks to this unique MOM prize at the Danish Superliga side.
The win was Sønderjyske’s first success this season after three games – having drawn their opening clash 1-1 with Aarhus and been thumped 6-2 by Midtylland at the end of July.
As a result of this 3-2 win Sønderjyske have moved up to 7th in the Danish Superliga with four points – and are now five points off the early leaders Copenhagen.
Next up for Sønderjyske is an away trip to Viborg in the league on Friday 8th August – where the football betting sites make them 5/2 to win.

How Many Potatoes Is 55kg?
It’s estimated that 55kg of potatoes is around 275-550 – depending on the size of each of them.
But the good news for Maxime Soulas – as long as he’s got a good place to store his new stash of spuds – is that the shelf life of potatoes is very good.
Potatoes can normally last a surprisingly long time – most of the time many weeks and even months if stored correctly.
But at room temperature they may only last 1-2 weeks.
Sønderjyske Not The Only Side To Give Unique Man Of The Match Awards
It seems giving out unusual Man Of The Match awards in Scandinavia is nothing new.
Norwegian side Bryne FK are famous for handing out strange MOM gifts too.
Recently the team gave player Lasse Qvigstad 100 eggs, 40 bags of oats and 20 litres of milk – meaning the footballer’s grocery order for the next few weeks will be a lot less.
