Bottom of the table Southampton welcome Wolves to St. Mary’s in the Premier League on Saturday, and we’ve got the latest team news and lineups included in our preview ahead of the action.

Southampton vs Wolves Preview

Looking to bring an end to a five-game losing streak across all competitions, Premier League basement club Southampton welcome Wolves to St. Mary’s for their Gameweek 29 fixture on Saturday afternoon.

Since their narrow 2-1 win over fellow relegation battlers Ipswich at the start of February, the Saints have lost to Bournemouth, Brighton, Chelsea and Liverpool in the league, as well as to Championship side Burnley in the FA Cup.

Last time out, Will Smallbone handed Ivan Juric’s side an unlikely 1-0 lead against the league leaders in Merseyside, but a Darwin Nunez leveller and a Mohamed Salah brace confined the south coast club to their 23rd loss of the campaign.

Heading into the weekend’s action, they are bottom of the table, 14 points adrift of safety and eight points behind 18th and 19th place Ipswich and Leicester. At this rate, they could well beat the league’s record lowest points total of 11.

Vitor Pereira’s Wolverhampton Wanderers, meanwhile, sit in 17th place on 23 points, six points clear of the drop zone. They come into this one off the back of a 1-1 draw against Everton and are without a win in three across all competitions.

Prior to their Gameweek 28 stalemate, they were eliminated from the FA Cup by Bournemouth on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw, and they were beaten 2-1 by Fulham at home in the fixture preceding that one.

When Wolves and Southampton last met in the Premier League, in November’s reverse fixture at Molineux, Pablo Sarabia and Matheus Cunha scored the all-important goals as the West Midlands outfit sealed a 2-0 triumph.

Southampton Team News

The Saints remain without James Bree (thigh) and Ryan Fraser (calf), while Jan Bednarek (concussion), Ross Stewart (fitness) and Juan Larios (fitness) are reportedly doubts.

Rennes loanee Albert Grønbæk led the line for Juric’s men at Anfield last time out, and while he could retain his spot in the starting lineup, both Cameron Archer and Paul Onuachu are options to come into the XI.

Wolves Team News

As for Wolves, in terms of injuries, Leon Chiwome (knee), Yerson Mosquera (knee), Sasa Kalajdzic (knee) and Enso Gonzalez (knee) are ruled out, while Marshall Munetsi (unspecified) is a doubt.

Star forward Cunha will also miss the fixture, as he remains suspended after receiving a straight red card in the FA Cup fifth round defeat to Bournemouth at the start of the month.

Southampton vs Wolves Prediction

Based on recent form, the reverse fixture and league standings, it’ll come as a surprise to few to learn that we at SportsCasting are backing Wolves to secure a comfortable three points on the south coast this weekend.

Even without Cunha, the Old Gold have more than enough talent that can cause problems for Southampton, with Munetsi, Hwang Hee-chan, Goncalo Guedes, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pablo Sarabia all likely to feature.

The UK’s best football betting sites, like us, are favouring the visitors to come out on top at around 21/20, while a draw is rated at around 12/5 and a victory for the Saints is priced at around 27/10.

Prediction: Southampton 0-2 Wolves
