A shooting in Stockholm is being linked to Arsenal’s summer move for Viktor Gyokeres, with Swedish police investigating reports of blackmail.

Stockholm Shooting Linked To Viktor Gyokeres Transfer

Police have linked Viktor Gyokeres’ £64m summer move from Sporting to Arsenal to a shooting and a blackmail attempt, according to Swedish news outlet ETC.

The shooting is said to have taken place at a home in Huddinge, with the target being a relative of a football agent. Two gunshots were fired, but thankfully no one was hit.

It is claimed that the police suspect the shooting is part of an extortion plot.

Gyokeres is represented by the Hasan Cetinkaya Management agency, who also have Frenkie de Jong and Antonio Rudiger among their list of clientele, and the agent that brokered his move to North London confirmed his involvement in the deal on social media.

Per the report, the agent would’ve received a share of the money made from the striker’s sale. It is suggested that this is what has led to the subsequent blackmail attempts.

Gyokeres Set For Arsenal Debut vs Manchester United

Having featured in the Gunners’ last three pre-season outings and scoring in the 3-0 win over Athletic Club last time out, Gyokeres is all set to make his competitive debut on Sunday.

The 27-year-old, who is among the favourites to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer with UK betting sites, is expected to lead the line for Mikel Arteta’s side against Manchester United.

Speaking to the media after Gyokeres’ maiden goal for the club on Saturday evening, Arteta was full of praise for the ex-Coventry City forward.

“I think everything that he does… his movement, the way he times his runs, the way he predicts the next move, where the space can be and where the ball is going to land, that’s the instinct that he has.

“That’s why he’s scored so many goals in the last few seasons, so that’s not a coincidence, it’s his ability and he’s constantly looking for it.

“I think he pins both centre-backs. He’s a player that, when you leave him with the space one against one, he’s going to destroy you.

“He’s going to create a lot of space as well for us and there is the moment that, in any situation, there is a player there that can score a goal.”

Gyokeres ended last term with 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances for Sporting across all competitions. Notably, he netted a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Seemingly, that performance left a lasting impression on a certain Cityzens legend, with Gyokeres being tipped for glory in Sergio Aguero’s top scorer prediction.

Following their trip to Old Trafford, Arsenal take on Leeds and Liverpool in the second and third gameweeks, in what is a tough start to the 2025-26 campaign.
