The 2025 Australian Darts Masters is well underway in Wollongong, and hometown darts star Tim Pusey, who darts fans say has the ‘greatest nickname ever’, has lost to Chris Dobey in Round 1.
Although he is now out of the tournament and fell at the first hurdle, it’s Pusey’s nickname that is grabbing all the headlines.
Darts Star Tim Pusey Loses To Chris Dobey In Round 1 Of Australian Darts Masters
All eyes are on Australia in the world of darts this week, as some of the world’s best arrow-smiths are playing at the 2025 Australian Darts Masters in Wollongong.
The Australian Masters features eight PDC representatives, who faced off against eight Oceanic representatives. The tournament goes down between August 8-9, with the likes of Luke Littler, Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries all in action.
This event marks the sixth World Series of Darts event of the season, with the seventh set to be played in New Zealand next weekend too.
‘The Iceman’ reigned supreme in Wollongong 12 months ago as he thrashed Littler 8-1 in the final. This year, UK betting apps have priced the Welshman at odds of 6/1 to successfully defend his title down under.
Alongside Price and Littler, world number one Luke Humphries, the in-form Josh Rock, current World Series leader Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, Mike de Decker and Australian no.1 Damon Heta are the other PDC representatives.
None of the eight Oceanic representatives were able to spring an upset in Round 1, with the eight PDC players all in the quarter-finals now. However, one man grabbed all the headlines in Wollongong, despite losing 6-4 to Chris Dobey.
Tim Pusey was 4-2 in his first round tungsten tie with Dobey, but lost four legs on the spin to crash out 6-4 to ‘Hollywood’. Despite his best efforts, Pusey was unable to progress into the last eight of the tournament.
Although he is no longer in the competition, Pusey is grabbing all the headlines for his iconic darts nickname.

What Is Tim Pusey’s Darts Nickname?
Every darts player has a nickname they are known by, an alias if you like. Over the years you’ve had numerous, such as Eric Bristow, who was labelled ‘The Crafty Cockney’ or Gary Anderson who is called ‘The Flying Scotsman’.
Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler and Adrian ‘Jackpot’ Lewis are just some well-known nicknames over the years in professional darts.
However, the nickname of Australian darts star Tim Pusey is certainly one that has caught the eye. Pusey’s darts nickname is ‘The Magnet’, which has attracted a fair share of attention due to it’s risque meaning.
It’s fair to say that Pusey has attracted a lot of attention for his nickname since coming to the public eye. His humorous nickname evidently didn’t help him beat Chris Dobey, nor score a 170-checkout or progress in the Australian Masters.
The 32-year-old has been labelled to have “arguably the greatest nickname ever for a darts player” by some fans. Another fan added: “Best darts name ever”, while another wrote “always a classic 😅“.
Unfortunately for Pusey, his darts weren’t magnets to the treble in Wollongong as he falls at the first hurdle.
SportsCasting‘s Australian Darts masters betting tips didn’t select ‘The Magnet’ to win anyway, but have picked an outright selection who averaged 100+ in Round 1.
