UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall has revealed how MMA all time great George St-Pierre has helped him embrace fear when he steps into the octagon.

Tom Aspinall Takes Advice From George St-Pierre

As a fighter, you are continuously learning. No matter whether you’re at the start of your career at the bottom, or at your peak at the top and everything in-between, fighters are always learning. No matter what.

Tom Aspinall is testament to this. Despite being the interim UFC Heavyweight Champion and arguably the best heavyweight in the world alongside Jon Jones, Aspinall has admitted he has learned a lot from George St-Pierre over the years.

‘GSP’ is one of the greatest pound-for-pound UFC fighters of all time and without doubt one of the greatest MMA fighters to ever grace the octagon. Learning from St-Pierre will be nothing but helpful, given his credentials and experience at the very top of the sport.

Aspinall has revealed in a recent interview that George St-Pierre has helped him confront his fear of fighting. This comes after the English MMA phenom has spoken openly about how scared he gets in the lead up to a fight and how daunting fighting fellow UFC heavyweights actually is.

Aspinall is on a collision course with Jon Jones in a heavyweight unification clash after taking care of Sergei Pavlovich, Alexander Volkov and Curtis Blaydes in brutal fashion. Despite his dominance inside the octagon, Aspinall has admitted to being scared whenever he gets in the cage.

The 31-year-old has revealed how George St-Pierre has helped him overcome his fear of fighting, helping use it as fuel and even have it play in his favour as a ‘superpower’.

During Aspinall’s chat with Logan Paul on the Impaulsive podcast, the Englishman also talked about Jon Jones ‘conning the public’ amid their fight negotiations, which UFC President Dana White claims is ‘done’. However, the fight is still yet to be officially announced.

Tom Aspinall: ‘I Learned A Lot From GSP’

Tom Aspinall was a guest on Logan Paul’s popular Impaulsive podcast recently, talking about a whole host of different topics.  They of course chattered about Jon Jones, Alex Pereira and much more, but did have a conversation about fighting with fear.

Refreshingly for an elite level fighter, Aspinall revealed to Paul how he is happy to embrace fear and feels it has almost become a ‘superpower’ for him:

“I learned a lot of this stuff from GSP. Because he’s so open and he’s like 10 years before me, maybe even more. And that guy’s going out there fighting guys like Nick Diaz, who are giving him the finger and p***ing him off constantly.

“He’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m scared. But I’m going to go over and kick your a– anyway.’ I love that upfront honesty when you’re honest with your emotions and facing yourself. I absolutely love that.

“I will openly speak about how scared I am when I fight. There’s me and GSP who’ve spoke about it a lot. There’s so many UFC fighters who are like, ‘I ain’t f***ing scared. I’ll fight anybody.’ And I’ll definitely fight anybody as well, but it’s still scary, and I’m open with it.

“I feel like when you are open with that and you embrace it, it gives you a whole superpower in itself,” Aspinall concluded in a brutally honest conversation with Logan Paul.
