Tom Kim Apologizes After Locker Breaking Incident at Genesis Championship
Having lost out in a play-off at the 2024 Genesis Championship at the weekend to fellow countryman, Byeong Hun An, there was speculation doing the rounds that Tom Kim took his frustrations out on a locker in the golf changing room after.
You can make your own mind up from the picture below, with Kim claiming after that the door ‘just fell off’, but still issued an apology for the damage.
Kim went onto say that he also offered to pay for any damage to the Jack Nicklaus golf club locker (see the full statement below).
However, with Kim also claiming after the defeat that he was ‘frustrated’ this has led to many wondering if the locker door ‘just falling off’ story is 100% true.
Tom Kim added that he had “no intent of damaging any part of the locker, not a single bit.”

“I addressed it with the [DP World Tour] and the KPGA right after the incident saying that the door came off. We had to fully pull it out due to safety reasons. I also let them know that I was willing to pay all expenses for the damage.
“I am grateful to everyone that’s reached out with messages of support, but to them and everyone else that I may have let down, I apologize with all my heart,’
Locker Just Came Off In Kim’s Hands
Kim’s manager Ben Harrison also claimed after the event that his man literally held the handle of the locker, opened it super-aggressively and it broke a hinge. Then in order to avoid any safety issues, decided to take the door off and rest it in front of the locker.
This whole Tom Kim locker incident came after he lost on the par 5 18th in a play-off at the Genesis Championship when hitting his third shot into the grandstand and ending with a bogey.
With his play-off partner – An – making a birdie to win the DP World Tour Event.
