Tottenham Hotspur are exploring the possibility of signing Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, according to reports.
The club are looking to strengthen their side despite the ongoing managerial uncertainty surrounding Thomas Frank.
Frank is on the brink of being sacked by Tottenham after yet another home defeat to rivals and league strugglers West Ham at the weekend.
Tottenham Eye Curtis Jones Transfer
Despite last week’s arrival of Conor Gallagher, Spurs have been looking at Jones as a potential addition to transform their midfield.
The 24-year-old has continued to remain on the periphery under Arne Slot at Liverpool this season.
Jones has made 19 league appearances, but only 10 of those have come in the starting line-up.
Tottenham have faced ongoing issues with injuries throughout the campaign, leaving themselves light of options in the middle of the park.
James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentacur, Joao Palhinha and Dejan Kulusevski are just some of the names on the treatment table.
Spurs like Jones’ versatility to play different roles across the midfield, while he can also slot in at right-back if required.
A deal to bring him to North London this month may be challenging, particularly given Jones’ recent run in the Liverpool side.
His departure would also leave Slot in a precarious position, given it could leave him light of options in midfield.
Wataru Endo has just recovered from injury, but the fact that he has yet to make a Premier League start suggests his future at the club is elsewhere.
That would leave just Dominic Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister as their only natural central midfielders.
Therefore, a deal at the end of the season could be more achievable when Jones has 12 months left on his contract.
It will mean Liverpool will have to cash in or risk losing him for nothing if a new deal can’t be agreed with his boyhood club.
Tottenham Managerial Uncertainty
Jones will also be paying close attention to the managerial situation at Spurs, with Frank on borrowed time.
The Dane is set to be in charge of the Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, but the club are sounding out his replacement after a dismal run of form.
Oliver Glasner is the current favourite to become the next Tottenham manager.
The Crystal Palace boss confirmed he will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, with Gareth Southgate the favourite to replace him.
Spurs may take a similar approach to Manchester United by appointing an interim boss until the end of the season, when they’ll have the opportunity to cast a wider net of targets.
Mauricio Pochettino could be identified as an option for a return to his former club following the World Cup this summer.
Sacked Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca could also be an option as he plots his next step into management.
